"The FS1R is an 8 operator FM synthesizer with a Formant Shaping Synthesis section, digital multimode filter, and built-in effects. These units are quite powerful boasting 4 part multitimbrality, 32 Voices polyphony or 16 voices with filters in use, 88 FM algorithms, and robust memory (536 Voices, 512 Performances, 96 Formant Sequences). Released in 1998, these are the only FM synth Yamaha offered after the DX series and before the Montage. It is capable of loading DX7 patches and going quite far beyond them as well."
