Update: you can find a link to the schematics and user manual further below.

Only one was previously featured back in 2011 for a MOTM sale posted here. According to the seller: "Supposedly the WC stands for Wendy Carlos but I have never been able to verify it. i even contacted Stoney the creator of the Slave and he thinks I am correct BUT he can not find the records in his attic."

Auction description: "I purchased this Slave in 1998. I was not even aware they existed until reading Mark Vail's book 'Vintage Synthesizers'. I am sure that book is what infected a lot of us with the vintage synth BUG.

This is like a rack mount Synergy with more features. You can control the velocity, pitch, and modulation from any vintage or modern midi controller.

The internal board is marked 002 and the hand written serial number has faded or been accidentally wiped off with a misguided spritz of contact cleaner but it also reads 002. The synth is in overall good, un-abused shape with no bent rack ears etc. It does have some very mild rack rash here and there in the typical places but overall it is very clean.

This Slave is fully functioning and has recently been serviced. It is a nice unit inside and out. All tantalum caps have been replaced. This will not need any servicing or attention for years to come, all the work has been done ahead of time.

It includes a copy of all literature Mulogix provided for the Slave and a copy of the original schematics. Everything works.

Free worldwide shipping. All items will be professionally packed at my expense.

The manual for this is THICK. It is up to the new owner to learn the ins and outs of this beast. I can guarantee that all functions and features work. I can guarantee that it sounds incredible.

No computer or software is included. It is pretty easy to figure out. The manual spells out everything in full detail and all Mulogix literature that was made for this machine is included. If you do your homework you will be greatly rewarded.

It has 48 internal presets that are absolutely killer and 48 sounds stored in RAM. You can set up any true DOS computer to load the entire voice library using a program called MuLib or use Synergy Cartridges.

I have tried in earnest to locate more information about the serial number of this guy. I even convinced Stoney to dig around in his attic with no success. I would keep this treasure but life changes are forcing me to move some gear. There were only 8 to 30 of these made depending on who you ask. I realize my price is coo coo crazy but this belongs in a museum and is one of the best sounding and rarest synths in existence. I guess we are about to find out if anyone agrees with me on that."

Update via the seller:

"Here is a google drive URL to a high quality scan of the Schematic, User Manual in two parts, the Digital Synthesis Module RS-232 Interface Technical Reference manual, Mulib Users Guide, the Feature Specification with reference sheet, blank Beta Test Registration form, Software and voice library for the Slave."

  1. From some recordings on Soundcloud, the Slave 32 sounds like a church organ. Not an expensive one. I am also not doubting there is someone out there who will pay $10,000 for this item. I have ceased doubting that the human race is capable of anything.

    1. agreed on both counts. FM & Synclavier killed off the Dk synergy and for good reasons

    2. With all due respect the GDS, Synergy, Slave 32 are capable of far more than just Church Organ sounds. You obviously have never studied the architecture of these synthesizers nor own any of them like I do. There are more sound examples online of the broad range of sounds that they can make than just the examples given here. The judgement rendered by the comments given above are unjustified.
