Triggering Tricks with WMD's Crucible

Published on Jul 21, 2019 Learning Modular

"The WMD Crucible's two trigger inputs can yield three different sounds:

- a trigger at just the Edge input simulates hitting the edge of of a cymbal
- a trigger at just at the Mid input simulates hitting the middle or “meat” of the cymbal
- a trigger happening at both inputs at the same time simulates hitting the bell or center of a cymbal

Patching a normal trigger generator like Mutable Instruments’ Grids that has an optional Accent output to the Edge and Mid inputs on Crucible will only yield edge and bell sounds, as the Accent trigger only happens at the same time as the main trigger output.

Therefore, to get all three sounds out of the crucible, you need two independent trigger sources that sometimes fire independently, and that sometimes fire at the same time - which I demonstrate above.
