Electrosmith DIY Analog Modular Synthesizer w/ Electrosmith Sub Modules

Ipsum Audio

"This is a homemade analog synth that I've been working on for close to a year now. It is a classic monosynth with 3 oscillators, 1 modulating LFO, and a 24dB/oct VCF. The core modules (VCOs, VCF, VCA) are built on the submodule boards available from Electro-Smith (links below).

The case has ~96HP of Eurorack space, and also houses the Arturia Keystep controller. It is made of poplar with walnut stain. The case is powered by an old Elpac PC power supply that provides +/-12V and +5V."

Electrosmith Submodules:

3340 VCO SUBMODULE - $24.95

The Electrosmith 3340 VCO is an analog oscillator submodule that uses a reissue of the legendary CEM3340 IC. This chip was responsible for some of the most iconic synth sounds in history including the SH-101, Jupiter 6, Prophet 5, OB-8, and Memorymoog. The typical application circuit from the datasheet has been implemented on this submodule, along with the most well known tweaks and improvements from over the years. Whether you’re looking to evaluate the 3340 sound, or build a 16 voice poly synth, this submodule provides an off the shelf solution for classic analog goodness.

All SMT installed
No external components necessary besides control interface (pots, jacks, etc. )
Breadboard friendly
Pure analog waveform generation
Designed for +/-12V supply voltages, but can be powered from various levels
Can be calibrated to various pitch tracking standards
New on this version:
- Sine wave output
- Smaller form factor
- Improved sound quality and waveform shapes

2144 LPF SUBMODULE - $23.95

The Electrosmith 2144 LPF submodule provides smooth, analog low pass sounds via the reissue of the classic SSM2044 filter IC. This chip has provided the filter section for many famous poly synths. Tracks musical intervals and self oscillates when resonance is at max.

Male headers included.

All SMT installed
Breadboard friendly
Voltage controlled analog low pass filter
Uses reissue of classic SSM2044 filter IC
4 pole architecture (24dB per octave)
Tracks musical pitch intervals
Self oscillates a pure sine tone

2164 VCA SUBMODULE - 20.95

The Electrosmith 2164 VCA submodule provides two channels of high fidelity, low noise amplification of audio or CV signals. Each channel is a complete linear VCA circuit with inputs for the primary signal, and control CV. No additional passives are necessary for the typical application circuit. The VCA architecture uses a 2164 IC which has been an audio industry standard for decades.

Male headers included.

All SMT installed
Breadboard friendly
Dual linear VCA
High fidelity 2164 based architecture
Gain: silence to 2x amplification
DC coupled inputs
