Roland CR-8000 - Programming Tutorial - Werkstatt Matlak

"This is a short guide how to erase a user 'PROGRAM' and user 'INTRO/FILL IN' on a Roland CR-8000

user 'PROGRAM' = lower white buttons
user 'INTRO/FILL IN' = rotary swtich '9 - 12 PROGRAM'

Erasing a 'PROGRAM':

1 - turn on your CR-8000 (wow)
2 - turn on the VOLUME on your CR-8000 as well as all VOICE LEVEL (wow)
3 - place CR-8000 'PROGRAM MODE' switch to - BASIC -
4 - choose the desired PROGRAM (Pattern) ((lower, white buttons 1-8)) you want to erase
a constantly illuminated red light will show you where you are
5 - STOP the CR-8000 by pressing START/STOP (a red light indicates the unit is stopped)
6 - PRESS & HOLD simultaniously 'REGISTER + CRASH' for about 5 seconds
a short blink benath your chosen PROGRAM button will indicated that it was erased
7 - START the CR-8000 to make sure your PROGRAMM bank is erased
8 - enjoy your empty PROGRAM bank and create a new pattern

Erasing a 'INTRO/FILL IN - PROGRAMM (9 - 12)':

1 - turn on your CR-8000 (wow)
2 - turn on the VOLUME on your CR-8000 as well as all VOICE LEVEL (wow)
3 - place CR-8000 'PROGRAM MODE' switch to 'FILL IN'
4 - choose a PROGRAM from 9 - 12 you want to erase
5 - STOP the CR-8000 by pressing START/STOP (a red light indicates the unit is stopped)
6 - PRESS & HOLD simultaniously 'REGISTER + CRASH' for about 5 seconds
a short blink next to INTRO/FILL IN rotary swtich will indicate that your PROGRAM was erased
7 - PRESS INTRO/FILL IN 'MANUAL' button to make sure your INTRO/FILL IN PROGRAM was erased
8 - enjoy your empty INTRO/FILL IN PROGRAMM bank and creat a new pattern

Programming a new PROGRAMM (pattern):

1 - turn on your CR-8000 (wow)
2 - turn on the VOLUME on your CR-8000 as well as all VOICE LEVEL (wow)
3 - place CR-8000 'PROGRAM MODE' switch to - BASIC -
4 - choose the desired PROGRAM (Pattern) ((lower, white buttons 1-8)) you want to program on

You can eighter overright a existing program or erase it first - as you like
5 - choose the instrument (BD, SD, LT, HT;....AC) you want to programm
6 - STOP the CR-8000 by pressing START/STOP (a red light indicates the unit is stopped)
7 - with 'REGISTER' & 'CRASH' buttons you now gonna program your beats

Now learn this:

REGISTER = trigger
CRASH = pause

REMEMBER - the CR-8000 has 32 STEPS for PROGRAM patterns

so..lets say a 4 to the floor kick (BD) is going to be like:

REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH
REGISTER - CRASH - CRASH - CRASH

8 - creat beats - have fun!
(9) - put the PROGRAMM MODE switch back to 'PLAY' if you dont want to accidently overright your programmed patterns

Programming a new INTRO/FILL IN (9-12 PROGRAM):

1 - turn on your CR-8000 (wow)
2 - turn on the VOLUME on your CR-8000 as well as all VOICE LEVEL (wow)
3 - place CR-8000 'PROGRAM MODE' switch to - FILL IN -
4 - choose the desired INTRO/FILL IN PROGRAM (9 - 12)
You can eighter overright a existing program or erase it first - as you like
5 - choose the instrument (BD, SD, LT, HT;....AC) you want to programm
6 - STOP the CR-8000 by pressing START/STOP (a red light indicates the unit is stopped)
7 - with 'REGISTER' & 'CRASH' buttons you now gonna program your beats

REMEMBER - the CR-8000 has 16 STEPS for INTRO/FILL IN PROGRAM patterns!

so..lets make a CONGA/TOMS fill in:

select MC (Mid Conga) and press 4 times REGISTER
then
select LC (LOW Conga) and press 4 times REGISTER
then
select HT (Hi Tom) and press 4 times REGISTER
then
select LT (Lo Tom) and press 4 times REGISTER

MC - MC - MC - MC - LC - LC - LC - LC - HT - HT - HT - HT - LT - LT - LT - LT

congrats, you programmed a killer TOM FILL IN on your CR-8000 :)

8 - create fill ins and have fun

(9) - put the PROGRAMM MODE switch back to 'PLAY' if you dont want to accidently overright your programmed patterns
AND if you dont want your CR-8000 to always start with a INTRO/FILL IN first!"
