"The optical sound synthesizer SILHOUETTE Eins uses greyscale values for sound synthesis. In this video a "Vimple" (visual sample of an analog synthesisizer (Korg MS20) is crossfaded with a template on the lighttable, captured by the camera. The notes ate played by sequencer remote (plus some bassdrum notes).

    Such sounds could be made with any synthesizer. Why go to all this technical trouble to do something so ordinary? It is more extravagant than impressive. Like grocery shopping in a Ferrari.
