Spectravox and Subharmonicon | Non-Standard Filter Bank Modulation

video upload by Moog Music

"In this video we combine Subharmonicon and Spectravox together to get fascinating and unorthodox spectral modulation.

We begin by creating a sequence using Subharmonicon’s dual sequencer, polyrhythmic movement, and VCO 1. We then send VCO 1 to Spectravox’s carrier input to shape that VCO using Spectravox’s ten filters. Turning the levels of all but filter one on Spectravox down give us a traditional lowpass filter subtractive synthesis architecture, and an envelope set to SHIFT will open that lowpass filter. Subhamonicon’s two envelopes and Spectravox’s single envelope can be used to create dynamic movement in our filter bank, but more unorthodox modulation can be achieved using Subharmonicon’s four sub-oscillators. These sub-oscillators are not syncronized with our sequencer movement, giving rise to interesting interference patterns in our resulting spectrum."
