Let's start with a simple sequence going to Manis’ Pitch input. With slew turned off, every note changes instantly. Now we'll increase the slew amount. Instead of abrupt jumps, the notes glide smoothly into one another, creating classic portamento.
Slew isn't just limited to pitch .
Here, another lane on Mimetic Digitwolis is sending stepped modulation to the Low Pass Filter input on Manis. Without slew, each change is immediate. By adding slew to that lane, those abrupt steps become smooth transitions, creating a more fluid, evolving timbre.
Let’s hear them both together, with slew applied to the pitch and filter modulation.
While dedicated slew limiter modules offer additional features like independent rise and fall times or CV control, even a simple slew function—like the one built into Mimetic Digitwolis—can add a lot of expression to your melodies and patches.
