"The Drone Establisher" Unique Oscillator (CAE Telegraph & Data Generator 8620)
I warn you, this thing is DAMN HOT; and by that, I mean the output of this unit is a large amount of volts which may potentially damage your equipment. Start on mute, and very slowly turn it up, if you go full-bore into something, you might regret it. It's blown up a guitar distortion pedal before --- It's had a taste of letting the magic smoke out of components, and it's got the need to extract more.
A hint: use the left hand side pair of outputs, as these are much lower in voltage and current than the right hand side pair of outputs.
What does it do, I hear you ask???
Well, it's designed to send test signals down phone lines in various patterns to emulate a modem. You'll see on there, there's a whole bunch of olde school modem bauds on there.
See those 8 switches on the right? They're sweet. If you put it into that mode, you draw the outputting waveform in these switches. Kind of like Walsh tones if you've heard of those.
What does it sound like?????
It sounds like THIS sample I recorded live randomly going through the modes.
Awful and terrible, sacred and profane. This is an unfiltered sound. If you run it through some effects, a pedal pitch, and a reverb or delay, you can ger some amazing timbres from this."
