"The Make Noise ‘Shared System’ is re-made in Black and Gold with the Erbe-Verb and CV Bus added. The personal favorite system of Make Noise founder Tony Rolando, this collection of modules is utilized by all artists for the Make Noise Records Shared System Series. It was also utilized by both Alessandro Cortini and Richard Devine for their performances at the 2012 Make Noise Opening party. The Shared System is the deepest and most complex of the Make Noise systems bringing together all of their synthesis techniques into one system. From analog FM to voltage controlled granularization, the Shared System will go to more sound destinations than most folks have time to travel to in a single lifetime.

The CV Bus was originally designed for Alessandro Cortini's personal Make Noise system. It provides visual indication of level, rate and polarity for up to 4 control signals that will be shared throughout a patch. These 4 control signals are color coded and distributed across the center of the system allowing for quick, clean and intuitive patching. The distribution method is unlike the typical multiple since the control signals will appear beneath their possible destinations allowing for the use of shorter patch cables. The color coding and visual indication makes navigating complex patches easier and more intuitive. Typically, the CV Bus would be used to share the most important control signals in a patch such as Master Clock.

The CV Bus also has the tools needed for integrating the Make Noise system with the outside world. A 1/4" Mono input with plenty of gain allows for bringing external signals into the system. The optimal 10Vpp signal level is visually indicated. A high quality Stereo Line Driver converts powerful modular synthesizer signal levels to the commonly used Line Level. There are mini-jack inputs for Left and Right, a single Master Volume control, and a TRS Stereo 1/4" output jack. This output is capable of driving a long cable out to a PA System or a set of Headphones. It has AC coupling and a built-in limiting circuit (with visual indication) that prevents damage to ears and PA system when the patching gets experimental.

Jump into Noise (Make Noise Shared System)

Published on Feb 2, 2014 Salz-Peter Zucker

"My favorite synth riff, played by my favorite modular synthesis system. Apart from the intro this tune is, obviously, self-generating. Therefore to prevent boredom I added an analog clock generator: let your eyes follow the pendulum and feel how your body relaxes more and more...

The System is extended with STO and MMG. Both slopes of maths are patched in the phonogene's organize, varispeed and genesize inputs. EOS clocks the Echophon, which is again clocking the Wogglebug. The Wogglebug drives rené in snake mode, snake control via maths. Everything else controlled by maths, rené and brains. And by everything I mean nearly everything..."

Make Noise Shared System Release Featuring Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe

The third release in the Make Noise Records Shared System Series, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe: Heptagramic Approximation & Alpha Crucis is now available.

"For this series we were given fairly strict parameters within a system coming from one designer with a heavy aesthetic. The challenge was to create two real time patch pieces recorded without multi tracking or any sort of outboard gear, effects, etc. Everything you will hear on these sides was done in a single pass without treatment of any kind outside of what was in the synthesizer. any delays or echoes you hear are generated by the machine..."

Make Noise Records: Shared System Surachai Preview

To stop and start the video click anywhere on the screen. To hear audio click on the speaker icon on the top left. It's a five second video loop that will play until you either scroll down or manually stop it.

I haven't jumped on the Vine bandwagon yet for posts as five seconds isn't much, but I thought this one deserved a post. It's an interesting part of synth history as it is part of the Make Noise Records Shared System releases and a preview of Surachai's (of TRASH_AUDIO) upcoming release on the system. It is also kind of cool to see the routing of the patch scroll by. This is the first post with a Vine embed so there's that as well. :)

If you are not familiar with the Make Noise Shared System releases, see the label below. Note the label captures the Make Noise Records Shared System posts. Make Noise Records Shared System MNR001 Richard Divine

Richard Devine wrote in to let us know his new EP Shared System Series MNR001 on Make Noise Records was officially released today.  It is the first EP composed on the Make Noise "Shared System" Eurorack modular pictured below.   Additional releases featuring the system will be coming from Alessandro Cortini, Robert A. A. Lowe, Keith Fullerton Whitman and Surachai.

Some info via Richard:

"I am happy to announced my new EP on MakeNoise is officially released today, 'Creature I & II –7' Clear Vinyl, Limited to 500, Letterpress Cover. Includes downloads to alternate takes & stickers."

And via TRASH_AUDIO on the concept of the Shared System releases:  "The Shared System Series compiles the separate recordings of several artists utilizing the same electronic musical instrument, the Shared System. At times it feels as though electronic music has become an overly automated form driven by simplified genre specific apps and software. What happens when the signal path is not pre-defined or optimized for a popular result? The Shared System is a modular synthesizer developed by Make Noise. It has no pre-determined signal path, and is not designed for any particular musical destination. In limiting the artists to this one instrument, we hope the Shared System Series of records will purely illustrate the intentions of the artists.

Mastered for vinyl by Audible Oddities, etched into high quality master lacquers made by SAE Mastering, and shipped to URP for pressing. The result is a high fidelity 7″ record. Like the Shared System instrument, the sleeves for these records are a combination of digital and analog technology. They are designed using computer software and printed using a hand-cranked letterpress called the Vandercook 4."

MakeNoise Records & Richard Devine's Latest EP "Creature"

"Tony Rolando from Make Noise Co. and Surachai have been planning for the past several months and the result is a record label called Make Noise Records and the initial series to be released is called Shared System. Tony has put together a self-contained modular synthesizer system composed of Make Noise modules and Surachai is curating the series. The selected artists are given one rule: think inside the box.

Shared System Records has 5 artists lined up and all their recordings will be released on separate limited edition 7″ vinyl releases accompanied by an exclusive download card that grants access to extended aural explorations. We are releasing one 7″ at a time and Richard Devine will be our first offering.

Richard Devine's new EP entitled "Creature" will be the first released on limited edition clear 7" vinyl.

Stay tuned for more information…"
