Xiphonics picoTracker Advance Portable Music Workstation

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

"Only at Perfect Circuit:

Xiphonics picoTracker Advance Resembling a Matrix GameBoy and slightly larger than a passport, this portable music workstation is a portal to eight-track composition with muscular sequencing and a suite of instruments and effects. We're the exclusive North American dealer for the pico Tracker Advance: give it a peek and level up your downtime."

You can find some demos in previous posts here.

"The Xiphonics picoTracker is a portable tracker that offers a premium experience for on-the-go music creation. From the 4", 720x720 color display to the incredible tactile keys, you get sensations that will make it hard to put this device down—nor will you need to with an incredible six hours of battery life. The software and key combinations are easy to use: inside of a few minutes you'll be up and running creating some interesting textures and driving beats. Load in your own samples on the included SD card or sample directly in the device using the internal mic or 1/8" TRS line input.

When composing, you have access to eight stereo channels with sixteen steps for chaining Phrases, which themselves have sixteen steps available to program. When programming phrases, you have access to the notes, step behavior, instrument selection, and effects. With this combination you can get lost weaving together intricate rhythms and stitching together disparate textures to construct nuanced, full-ensemble arrangements. There's also a Groove section which allows you to adjust the timing with an incredible amount of precision, allowing for a natural—or unnatural—rhythmic feel. One of the most interesting options with the picoTracker is the Table screen, which lets you create complex effect sequences that can be looped, played once, or can jump between different sections. These Tables can be triggered via an Instrument or a Phrase.

When you've finished your piece, or want to take it into another device or DAW, you can render out a Mixdown or individual stems right on the device itself. Indeed, the Xiphonics picoTracker behaves much like any other tracker, but the options presented by the interface and the physical interaction really has this lovely little friend punching above its weight.
