The UDO Super 8

The Super 8 is a 16-voice polyphonic, bi-timbral analog-hybrid performance synthesizer. Employing superior hands-on controls, an expressive 61-note weighted keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch and all the powerful, flexible and addictive sound of the UDO Audio family.

Overview

Introducing the next evolution in the Super series. At the core of the Super 8 is two independent binaural analog-hybrid synthesizer signal chains using UDO’s proprietary and proven synthesizer technology. With up to 16 voices of polyphony and two unique timbres each with their own independent effect chain, this instrument is analog reimagined. Like its larger sibling the Super Gemini, voices and timbral layers can be split, dualled, sequenced all at the touch of a single control.

Powered by complex FPGA digital oscillators, the Super 8 is decorated with expansive tonal features such as wave morphing, cross & ring modulation, bi-directional sync and an all-analog signal path to the output, inspired by the analog poysynth heavyweights of lore. Equipped with a 61-note semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, left hand performance controls and 256 performance and patch slots, 32 interchangeable waveforms and 16 sequences, the Super 8 balances power, playability and performance.

Sitting in between the Super 6 and the Super Gemini in size and power, the Super 8 puts the player first using high quality tactile control elements with our user-centric intuitive design philosophy that inspires exploration and sonic play. Adopting a similar true-stereo Binaural signal path with dual FPGAs and twin effects processors like the Gemini, and yet retaining the portability and road-friendly personality of the Super 6. BRISTOL, UK: UDO is proud to announce availability of its breakthrough Super 6 keyboard instrument in an alternative white colourway complimenting the SUPERBOOTH23-shown Super Gemini — itself introduced to widespread critical acclaim at the FEZ-Berlin-hosted specialist trade fair in mid-May as a 20 VOICE DUAL LAYER POLYPHONIC BINAURAL ANALOG-HYBRID SYNTHESIZER WITH SUPER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY, tastefully highlighted on its exquisitely-executed control panel framing a custom- engineered ribbon controller and a 61-note semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch, all set to take up its rightful position as the British electronic musical instrument company’s flagship product when shipping later this year — alongside a limited number of special-edition blue Super 6 desktop models that perfectly match their blue keyboard counterparts also given the SUPERBOOTH23 showcase treatment in celebration of the forthcoming flagship game changer, as of June 15…

It is fair to say, though, that UDO’s breakthrough Super 6 keyboard instrument made a show-stopping splash upon its introduction to the musical masses assembled at SUPERBOOTH19 in Berlin, Germany, subsequently making its musical mark worldwide when originally released in both black and blue colourways as a 12 VOICE POLYPHONIC BINAURAL ANALOG-HYBRID SYNTHESIZER WITH SUPER-WAVE TECHNOLOGY that really represented a new take on the traditional analogue synthesizer. State-of-the-art FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) digital hardware oscillators are coupled with analogue filters and amplifiers, while its unique super-wavetable core can be shaped and manipulated with the binaural analogue signal path and flexible modulation also on offer. Of course, SUPER 6 features a true stereo path in which its 12 voices are twinned to form six ‘Super’ voices — hence the appropriate appellation applied to the instrument itself. Its L (left) and R (right) OUTPUT channels — and each ear, effectively — are assigned a complete synthesizer voice. So, starting with the stereo OSCILLATORS, parameters of both channels of such voices can be controlled independently, in turn allowing users to create stunning stereo images.

In recognition of the 49-note Fatar keybed-determined footprint of that breakthrough instrument not necessarily suiting everyone’s needs, UDO was quick to follow up with the Super 6 desktop. Designed to take a beautifully re-engineered full-featured Super 6 to an even wider audience by bringing its flexible and immediate control, gorgeous analogue sound, and unrivalled build quality into a more compact package, perfectly housed in an all-metal chassis that also encompasses ergonomic features such as VESA mount compliance, optional 7U rack ears, and robust flip-up feet, it is finished in the same striking white colourway contemporarily applied to UDO’s Super Gemini future flagship — itself set to ship later this year as the second synthesizer in the British electronic musical instrument company’s so-called ‘Super’ series.

The first tune is a 90 ies style rave track with super saw arpeggio and fat octabass sound on Super Gemini plus reso sweep sound on the super 6.

"In this video I demonstrate my own programmed presets and also one or two factory presets. I played them mainly in DUAL MODE, so I used two presets and layered them. I recorded them via both output pairs for upper and lower sound directly in the audio interface without additional processing or FX. The SUPER GEMINI is a very flexible and great sounding hybrid synthesiser with a lot of insane performance and live tweaking possibilities. You can use up to 8 pedals, the touch strip and a poly aftertouch keyboard for multiple routings. Thanks for watching this video, hope till the ende, because it is quite long."

Superbooth 2023: UDO Super Gemini First Look

"We spoke to George Hearn from UDO Audio at Superbooth 2023 where they announced their latest synthesizer, the Super Gemini. The Super Gemini is an analog hybrid polysynthesizer with a high-quality polyphonic aftertouch keyboard and independent controls for the layers. This allows for a more immersive playing experience where users can arpeggiate one layer and have the other layer doing chords. The Super Gemini also has multi-timbrality, a slide controller for pitch expression, and a ring modulator. It adds wave morphing and has a more expressive control section. It has a slightly different analog signal path, a more upfront, slightly saturated character, and it's louder, a bit more forward and a bit more saturated.

The Super Gemini builds upon the concept and architecture of the Super Sixes with more expressivity and interaction with sound. It is essentially two Super Sixes with added features and a different analog feel to it. The instrument is a continuation and a growth of UDO Audio's product line, celebrating the family with new colorways. George demonstrated the Super Gemini and it did not disappoint, producing beautiful sounds."

UDO Audio has launched a new synthesizer, the Super Gemini, which is a 20-voice polyphonic, bi-timbral analog-hybrid instrument. The binaural aspect means it can run in 20 voice mono mode (non binaural oscillators) or 10 voice binaural mode - which if you've heard the Super 6, sounds pretty good.

The Super Gemini comes with a dual-layer design that offers control over both timbral layers. It has a powerful FPGA based hybrid sound engine and a 61-note semi-weighted keybed with polyphonic aftertouch. The Super Gemini features custom-engineered ribbon sensors for individual note articulation, and a gestural way to explore your sound.

The Super Gemini has 256 performance and patch slots, 64 interchangeable waveforms, and 16 sequences that can be safely stored and edited. The synthesizer is equipped with dual synth-control levels that gift the player with immediate and comprehensive control over multiple timbral layers. It also features a true-stereo signal path that empowers you to create extremely dynamic spatial sounds. The Super Gemini is built from aluminum and steel and comes with an array of superior quality mechanical controls - as we know designer George Hearn is a stickler for components look and feel"

"First couple weeks with the Super Gemini. Having some fun improvising with a chill single layer patch I made. DDS2 set to make some wind effects with noise while DDS1 is using LFO1 as a second oscillator for the melody. Reminded me of a windy, snowy winter walk through the trees. Not a revolutionary patch by any means but has been relaxing and so inspiring playing around with the Gemini."

"Always a pleasure to spend time in the company of George Hearn from UDO Audio, and especially as he brought the production ready Super Gemini poly synth with him.
The Super Gemini is now officially shipping, units are leaving the buillding and soon the 20 voice (10 in binaural mode) FPGA oscillator equipped synth will be making its way into the hands of those lucky folks whov'e ordered one.
Two FPGA oscillators per voice, (with 3rd trackable LFO), Analogue filter, analogue VCA with two discrete synth layers that can be played in two 5 voice each (binaural oscillator mode), or 10 voice per synth, each with discrete controls and chorus/delay FX.
In the hands of George it sounds wonderful, - in fact if you are an upper tier supporter, we've posted some additional playing in another post to whet your whistle.
Its not cheap, ut you do get a heck of a lot of synthesizer for your money..
