An ambient performance exploring the physical modeling and modulation capabilities of YOLA Voice.

Using physical modeling algorithms to create acoustic percussion sounds, combined with YOLA Voice's modulation algorithms to transform these sounds into dreamy, evolving ambient textures and ethereal soundscapes.

A journey from organic acoustic resonance to abstract electronic atmospheres, shaped through the expressive MPE control of YOLA.

4. YOLA + YOLA VOICE | 03 — HUMAN TOUCH

An expressive synth performance featuring a classic analog-style wobble bass sound.

Built around sawtooth oscillators, filter resonance, and dynamic filter modulation, creating rich, punchy bass tones with classic analog character.

The YOLA System

The YOLA system launches together with two dedicated expansions:

*YOLA CV Expansion* — Flexible polyphonic CV and Gate connectivity for modular synthesizers.
*YOLA VOICE* — A dedicated synthesizer expansion that brings a new sonic dimension to the YOLA system.

YOLA: GMXE Instruments - Beijing Modular 26

"We spoke to Shawn from GMXE Instruments about *YOLA*, a new modular MPE controller system built around a desktop control unit and interchangeable modules.

YOLA uses capacitive multi-touch control for up to eight fingers, with movement available across multiple directions. The desktop unit works with different module types, including CV output modules for banana or Eurorack connections, plus a synth voice module with its own display. The voice uses its own algorithm and includes effects, with FX1 and FX2 offering choices such as delay and reverb. Routing can be changed from the unit.

A sequencer module records sequences, and the controller can work with modular hardware via CV or with software via MPE MIDI, including Ableton Live. A pin-out system connects the modules, and a later cable setup is planned for connecting up to five different modules.

YOLA is expected around December, with worldwide sales planned. The main unit is expected to cost around $700, with modules roughly between $100 and $150.

YOLA MPE Test — 4-Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer Control via CV

"YOLA MPE Controller — Test Notes

In this test, YOLA is used as an MPE control terminal to play four analog oscillators polyphonically, with independent CV and Gate control for each voice.

The setup uses the magnetic CV expansion module, providing:

4 × polyphonic CV outputs
4 × Gate outputs
Buchla-format and Eurorack-format CV support
Demo 1 — 4-Voice Analog Polyphony

One YOLA demo unit sends four independent polyphonic CV signals to four analog oscillators, with four Gate outputs controlling four separate envelopes.

Each oscillator has its own character, while four individual LFOs modulate the dynamics of four LPGs.

The result is a fully polyphonic performance controlled directly from YOLA's multi-touch MPE interface.

Demo 2 — YOLA + GMXE 700 Voice

A second YOLA demo unit is connected to a GMXE 700 Voice via MIDI.

After approximately two minutes, the system switches into CV recording mode for another test.
