HIGHSAGE - SPIN! - Live Elektron Punishment (Aug 4 2012 San Diego)

"Full steam ahead live performance on the Elektron Machinedrum and Octatrack with a pissed off 303, Boss pedals and fx. All hardware recorded straight to tape off the mixer.
This set was performed at SPIN nightclub in San Diego on Aug 4th 2012 in front of a few hundred pure techno heads and acid fanatics. A small team of experts you might say. Elements of free-style pattern building, 303 tweaking, and energy management via delays, reverb, fx and heavy LFO's. Lights off, heads down, dance!

Piston Honda Sketchbook Vol.1

"The Piston Honda is a digital wavetable oscillator designed by Scott Jaeger (The Harvestman) with 2-dimensional waveform morphing.
Two ROMs are onboard, each containing 256 waveforms in 16 banks. Waves may be smoothly
morphed or violently jumped in two dimensions.

Given that this is one of my favorite oscillators in my system I thought I would start conducting some sonic experiments to explore this modules capabilities, quirks and character.

This is a collection of sonic sketches / patches from the mind of VoltageCtrlR were recorded at Akashic Mountain Studios in AZ.

released 06 May 2012
All compositions were recorded live in one take featuring VoltageCtrlR tweaking the dials and controls.
Mixed and mastered by Shiro Fujioka at Akashic Mountain Studios.

"These were sold in kit for in 1978 in the Practical electronics magazine. Boards were made by CLEF electronics who made various kit synths

Being sold as a restoration project as there are some parts missing and it does not function correctly. From what i can see the only parts missing are the 2 wooden end pieces that fill the gaps at the ends of the keys, a couple of slider caps, slider shaft missing, 1 x i.c on the chorus board is corroded and pins broke when i tried to remove from the socket. Other than that it looks complete

The mains cable wants replacing as it has got very worn, for safety this must be changed. I have powered on and the power light comes on, connected to an amp and the keys trigger some sounds but all a bit hit and miss on triggering. This will be down to key contacts being dirty i think.

nice little project as i am sure all of the components are standard and easily available now"

WATKINS (WEM) COPICAT Mk2 Rare Sixties Valve/Tube Tape Echo

See the seller's other items for more.

"Offered for sale here is a valve (tube) Mk2 Copicat from the sixties in reasonable cosmetic condition and excellent working order (for a 40-50 year-old valve tape echo). It has had a full service including, head cleaning/alignment/demagnetising, replacement of the capacitors, earthed three core mains cable fitted, and valves tested and replaced where appropriate.

Compared to the later IC Copicats the valve units don't usually produce such clear echoes, even when in good order (bear in mind the heads are 45 plus years old). This sounds lovely both as a pre-amp and as an echo unit. All three heads work well and sound excellent - good strong repeats that break up in an evocative fashion, and run into self-oscillation when the 'reverb' knob is turned up for authentic dub effects. The echoes have a good tone for an old valve Copicat and degrade with a dark crunchy quality - they cannot be desribed as accurate repeats as this is not a digital delay, but they have a sound and vibe that is most pleasing and create a unique effect that sounds 'right'.

These valve Copicats make great preamps, and are increasingly sought-after to add character and warmth to modern digital recordings (the Arctic Monkeys used a valve Copicat when recording their recent 'Suck It And See' album - see Sound On Sound magazine July 2011), as a result they are becoming harder to find, especially in good working order.

It has a trailing socket for footswitch operation and works with any normal footswitch (not included): the added advantage of this is that the footswitch socket carries the wet-only signal for use as an effects send via a mixing desk in the studio - the repeats don't self oscillate from this output unless you feed the signal back via the desk. This makes for a great character dealy when mixing, and is good for authentic dub effects.

The case is in reasonable order for its age, there is some damage as you'd expect and the original plastic grilles are long-gone but it has appropriate replacements.

It's fitted with a new genuine WEM tape - these are easy to bulk buy online, but if the winning bidder wants some couple of spares, please message us for prices/quantities. For best performance tape loops should be changed regularly. We can supply tape loops in greater quantities if required. We use/supply genuine WEM loops, still manufactured/supplied by Copicat designer/manufacturer Charlie Watkins, as well as loops from MyTapeEcho."
