"Up for sale is EXTREMELY RARE Soviet vintage polyphonic digital preset synthesizer
"FORMANTA P-432". It is a compact polyphonic digital synth produced by Katchkanar radio equipment factory "Formanta", famous for such well-known synthesizers as Polivoks, Manual, Maestro etc.
Was designed for both solo and ensemble performance. It has a 3-octave keyboard, 32 timbres and 4-voice polyphony. UNISON and CHORUS effects are available. Sound modulation parameters: VIBRATO (with variable frequency and depth), tune adjustment and a joystick for controlling modulation and pitch in the real-time mode. A foot pedal is provided for switching on/off SUSTAIN and VIBRATO parameters (included).

The synthesizer has a two-digit display for representing a preset number and some other system parameters. In Formanta P-432, a standard MIDI protocol is used, making it possible to select any one of the 16 MIDI channels and to control the MIDI program change. On the rear panel, the following connectors are situated: MIDI IN/OUT/TRANSIT(THRU), LlNE OUT and SUSTAIN/VIBRATO PEDAL INPUT (standard 1/4TRS "jacks").

The preset table timbres vary from different types of pianos, organs, harmonicas up to different kinds of "soviet-type" synths. Presets #02,11,14,15,16,24,34,37 produce sonic FX (not sure whether it is a factory setting or some kind of bug). In general synth is fully functional, is in MINT cosmetic condition & comes in full factory set: Synth, Case, Pedal, Connection cables.

The mains power of the unit is 220 volts. For 110/127v countries I`ll include voltage converter.

The unit is EXTREMELY RARE & is hard to find by all means even in former USSR countries..."

"This one was professionally modded for individual outputs for each sound set (BD, SD, LT/HT, CY, OH/CH) which are very useful for recording each sound separately along with running each through effect processes. Also there are trigger out for the BD and AC, which are nice for interacting with other synths or eurorack style gear. These mods are all 1/8 inch, but included are a set of 1/4 inch to 1/8 inch cables so you can easily convert the 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch if needed. The battery compartment is clean. All the step triggers and outputs work perfectly, and the knobs are smooth and scratch free. This machine was also serviced when it got the mods done, including a full cleaning so it is good to go."

This system includes one D.S.M. 1 module which provides a single drum voice and acts as a power supply for up to five additional modules. (BTW, it's important to know that the power supply jacks on the backs of the units should not be confused with MIDI jacks, although they use the same connectors.) It is accompanied by two D.S.M. 2 modules, each featuring two drum voices. These drum voices sound very much like Simmons SDSV sounds in both style and quality, and several useful synthesis parameters are provided to allow you to shape the sounds to your individual taste.

There are only a few issues to note. On D.S.M. 2 module #1350, both of the Mix controls are starting to feel as if the wipers in the potentiometers are about to give out. You can still create useful changes in the audio, but they jump a bit, and both should be replaced in order to achieve smooth operation. And on D.S.M. 2 module #1260, the Click potentiometer for drum synth 1 has been noticeably replaced. It works great, but the part that was used is slightly different in size, and it sticks out from the rest of the knobs.

Otherwise, this drum synthesis system is in great shape for its age. The LEDs and switches are immediately responsive, and the knobs are not scratchy. Most importantly, the drums sound clean and loud...
