Jupiter X vs Juno X... Which is best for you? Pros & Cons SYNTH TALK

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"Today we are comparing the Roland Jupiter-X and the Roland Juno-X: Two of Roland's flagship ZEN-Core synthesizers that share a LOT of similarities and some important differences.

Both synths share the same core sound engine, thousands of presets, model expansions, and modern features like I-Arpeggio, but they differ significantly in build, feel, controls, and vibe. In this video we compare:

Keyboard feel and aftertouch
Build quality, weight & portability
Control layout and hands-on workflow
Speakers, connectivity, and size
Price and value for money
Who each synth is best for (stage, studio, live performance, etc.)

If you're deciding between the Jupiter-X and Juno-X, this comparison will help you make the right choice."

Luna is the most LOGICAL synth in the world

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"The Luna from Neutral Labs is an instrument built on binary logic.

Taking inspiration from the DIY Lunetta synths of the 70s and 80s, Luna’s core architecture is built using CMOS chips, square waves, logic gates and binary processors. Its design leads to a semi modular instrument where rhythm is just harmony slowed down. Oscillators can be clocks, and the logic gates and binary processing modules can be involved in modulation and sequencing, or as audio processors depending on how fast you work them.

Luna supplements these binary ideas with a number of additional features which take it beyond the Lunetta synths of old, like pitch quantization with multiple scales, pitch sequencing, MIDI control and digital effects, as well as a three channel output mixer with low-pass gates.

In this video I’ll go through the various fundamental sections of Luna, demonstrating how they can be used to influence the synth, both at sub-audio-rate for sequencing and modulation as well as at audio-rate as sound processors, and then move on to a few full patches to explore how everything operates together. Throughout the video I’ll scatter a few other patches of various types to give you an idea of the range of the Luna in different musical settings.

Transparency notice: Neutral Labs Kindly sent this instrument over to me for free for the purposes of making videos about it."

Korg Phase8 + Make Noise Morphagene & Mimeophon (in two parts)

video upload by Genshi Media Group

"::| WARNING! EXTREME FREQUENCIES AHEAD. USE CAUTION! |::

A second test of the @KORG_INC Phase8 Acoustic Synthesizer, this time paired with the @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC Morphagene and Mimeophon. Sadly, at around the 7:29 mark, the Morphagene crashed! I have never experienced that before in the 9 years of owning the Morphagene (I made a separate "crash report" video which I am sending to Make Noise as I am able to reproduce this bug 100% of the time.)

As for the Phase8... I love this thing! As a percussionist first (my Father started me on the drums when I was 4 years old and over the years I picked up many different percussion instruments) the Phase8 just warms my heart. The kind of interesting rhythms you can get, along with the accents that can be achieved by placing objects on the Resonators (no, it's not just a gimmick) allows for the creation of everything from India Tabla style sounds, to West African rhythms, and more! It really is a creative and inspiring tool...."

UDO DMNO Playing Some Presets // Sounds Only

video upload by Starsky Carr

"The UDO DMNO has finally arrived. I have a full demo/review/walkthrough coming... but in the meantime here's a random selection of 22 sounds for those interested in what it can do.

The DMNO looks are inspired by the Oberheim SEM, but look under the surface.. and it's doing a whole lot more."

What the fork is Waveshaping? | Modular Classroom | Lesson 05

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I've been doing modular since 2018 and now I finally think I may have figured out what waveshaping could be. So by all means this is not some 'masterclass' where I teach you, it's learning as I go and recording it on video. The main takeaway from all this, is that waveshaping is not a module or something you'd do, it's something that happens when certain circumstances align. By definition, waveshaping is 'a non-linear transfer producing new harmonics' which kind of sums up nicely why it's so hard to put your head around it. It becomes much easier once you realize you need to listen for it, it's the result. Not the tech, process or recipe.

And how about 'folding'? As far as I know, wavefolding belongs to the waveshaping family, but instead of clipping the tops off, you'd mirror them back into the waveform. In waveshaping, 'transfer functions' are called 'shaper functions' because a 'transfer' is hijacked by systems theory and we're doing music and synthesis while leaving science in its own domain.

I'll mostly be using Serge gear in the classroom series, but you can already start shaping with a pre-amp with plenty of gain. Just push a sound to a loudness your case or ADC can't handle. Then you can figure out if it's cool to get dedicated tech for it. Hopefully you'll learn that waveshaping is not just distortion :)."

Synclavier II Hardware In 2 Minutes

video upload by Synclav com

"This is year number 27 for Synhouse.

Synhouse has fully restored and shipped many, many dozens of systems in the last three decades and this work continues in 2026.

Shown here is the testing of a Synclavier computer bin card set without needing the synthesizer voices yet (it ended up with 8 original style mono Synclavier II synthesizer voices). This Control Unit is used as a test box at Synhouse. Once testing was completed, the cards were moved to a freshly restored ATS 3-level enclosure chosen by the client.

Relatively few Synclavier IIs were made, and this is the super vintage hardware setup.

Synhouse stocks these systems and parts and Synhouse manufactures this hardware and has them in the Synclavier store on the Synclav.com website.
