"This is near mint 100% all original Crumar Spirit analog synthesizer. Co-designed by Bob Moo[g], this synth is often compared to a Minimoog, with some suggesting a preference for this rare monosynth."

"This is a beautiful example of the very rare and coveted Crumar Spirit monosynth designed in part by Bob Moog. This is one of around 250 made in Italy in 1983."

"If you always wanted to have one of the 200 Spirits ever made, or just looking for an extremely flexible and rare analog synth with a unique character and fat sound, this is your chance to own one.

A Moog design with routing complexity that satisfies the most demanding analog sound designers. I purchased it as an investment and to proudly own a piece of synth history, but given the current economy, I have to let it go for far below its value.

This Spirit is No. 62 (see photo for serial number). It is 100% functional, the knobs, switches, faders, pots, keys, audio and CV in- and outputs work well (all tested). The tuning stays stable...

- original power cable
- copy of user's manual with blank patch template and sample patch drawings
- copy of schematic diagram
- 5 additional CEM chips: 3340, 3340, 3350, 3360, 3360 (VCOs, dual VCF and VCAs). These are hard to find and not cheap. If anything ever needs to be replaced, it would most likely be a chip - think of them as your insurance to keep the Spirit healthy for a long time."

Curious if that's MOOGSPIRIT printed on the box below. It was designed by Bob Moog but the synth does not have his name on it, so it would be interesting if it was on the box. It could be MONO but what's left doesn't look like an N to me. If it is MOOG there's no space between it and SPIRIT. I believe this is the first post to feature the box.

Details from the listing:
"Not only is this a super rare synth (Serial number: 011) designed by Bob Moog, this particular unit was purchased new directly from the Crumar booth at the 1983 NAMM Show here in Chicago. The original buyer has kept it safely stored for the last 40 years, never used! Guaranteed you will NEVER find a cleaner example of this rare synthesizer.

Our service department have performed a fresh recap on this as the originals dried out after years of sitting in storage. The synth functions wonderfully, like new as you would imagine.

Includes the original box with evidence of being express shipped from Italy to the NAMM show. In addition to the original manual, warranty paperwork, cables and carrying case and pouch."

"This is one of the most powerful and certainly the most mind-boggling vintage analogue monosynths around. Designed by (the big man himself) Bob Moog, Tom Rhea and Jim Scott in the early 1980s for Italian company, Crumar (from MARio CRUcianelli, in case you were wondering).

Rumours abound as to how many of these were actually made - they arrived at rather the wrong time and were eclipsed by the digital DX7 - as few as 100, definitely not more than 300. This baby is serial number 20. What's more, this exact instrument was previously owned by the legendary and sadly long gone BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Who knows what TV themes and incidental sound effects it has graced? A proper collectors item."

"Here is an absolute killer!
If you ever wished for a Minimoog with a ton of modulation and routing, arpregiator, sample & hold, red noise, added overdrive, bandpass and high-pass to the filter as well as 12 or 24 dB slopes, a shaper matrix mixer, etc. Etc!-- then the ultra rare and amazing Spirit has to be experienced.
This unit is in very nice shape, tight and right. Just serviced to the tune of $640 at Electronic Innovations. 100% perfect operation, zero excuses. One mod- pitch bend in. Serial #42-- there were only a few hundred made and the number still out there in this exquisite condition has to be very low.
As for the sound, this is one of the most top tier pro sounding synths I've owned and I've owned a lot. I would place this beside the Minimoog, Prophet 5, CS50 and CS80-- units that sound so solid and healthy and pure that they are in an upper echelon."

"This vintage synth is in mint condition from what I can tell! All keys work well and the effects seem to also. There’s some noise but I know that is to be expected of these vintages synths.

It is speculated that only 100 of these were made, and that they were made by the legendary Bob Moog Himself."

"Nice condition for its age, amazing routing possibilities, two filters and two lfos. Probably one of the most flexible and powerful analog monosynths ever made. Only about 200 made, so quite rare.

"The Spirit is a monophonic synthesizer which has two audio oscillators and two simultaneous signal paths, which can output in stereo....

here were supposedly less than 100 of these made - this one is Serial Number 80.

If you aren't already familiar with what this can do, you can see an excellent review and description of its operation here.

Includes all original gear:
Soft carry case
Owners manual
Schematics booklet
warranty card
manufacturing quality control sheet
2 line in/out cables
power cable
cleaning cloth

Input/Output connections:
External audio in
Shaped audio out
ADSR/mix audio out
Filter pedal input
Oscillator B pitch pedal input
Keyboard gate output
Keyboard pitch voltage output
External pitch input
External gate input

There is a covered port on the back labeled MIDI, but there isn't anything behind it. There have been Synhouse MIDIJACK adapters available for this synth in the past - you may still be able to find one."

These don't come up often.

"1983 Robert Moog designed mono synth. Supposedly the follow up to the mini moog
2 Oscillators
2 Filters
Overdrive
Unique arpeggiator
2 ADSR's
2 LFO's with some fancy settings
Very flexible modulation routing
Sounds sweet

I have owned this for 10 years and had serviced a few times. Everything works as it should."

Crumar Spirit (1983 Bob Moog) - Vintage Synth - Fully Serviced SN 00032

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

If you are viewing this page I am sure you know what this thing is capable of. It was designed by Bob Moog and is quite literally one of the most powerful mono synths ever produced.

Lots and lots of modulation possibilities and filter options, to quote Sound On Sound “you’d be hard pressed to emulate its intricacies using a modular instrument”

It’s also an unbelievably rare piece of kit, somewhere in the region of 250 in existence.

Fully serviced and in excellent condition, just got it back from my technician today.

Things worth noting.

1. A couple of the original knobs are missing and were replaced by yellow ones by the previous owner. (Photo 6)

2. Wooden side panel has suffered a crack. My tech says it looks like somebody tightened the screws too tight and it was caused by the ensuing pressure. (Photo 9)

3. Scuffing to lower frame under keyboard and slight chip to underside of 1 key. (Photo 10)

4. Selling to cover a tax bill. Really regrettably. Always thought I would hold on to this forever.

5. There are some other light scuffs and scratches, which were very difficult to show in the photos.

6. I will NOT post this item. However I will deliver free of charge to any buyer in England or Wales. If you are outside of this area you will have to pick the item up yourself, in person. NO COURIERS."
