In this video we'll start from ZER0 to talk about what synthesizers are and how they work, using the oscillator and other circuits in the 0-Coast and 0-CTRL to demonstrate. You don't need to know ANYTHING about synthesis to understand this video, but even experienced synthesists might get something out of it!

"In the previous 'Starting from Zer0' videos we talked about oscillations and patching, and this time we’re going to talk about dynamics. Is this the most important concept in synthesis? No, all the important concepts are too inter-related for there to be one most important concept, but dynamics is maybe more easily overlooked in music and in synthesis than pitch or rhythm, while being at least as important to creating sounds and making music.

"The Mimeophon music synthesizer module is a stereo, multi-zone color audio repeater by Make Noise and soundhack, coded by Tom Erbe.

The Mimeophon (from Greek mimeo (repeat/copy) and phon (sound)) is a modern take on various historical sound copying, echo and repeating devices. It allows for Stereo modulations of Time, Space and Timbre of Mono or Stereo sound sources. The Mimeophon is capable of modulating and morphing time scales of repeated sound from micro-sound to note to phrase length while also coloring and spatializing the repeats.

- Color Coded Modeless Algorithm: morph between Karplus, Flange, Chorus, Echo, Looping and everything in between
- Rate continuously controls Repeats frequency within Zones
- Skew lets Rate control Repeats differently for Left and Right channels

"Let's use some simple control voltage shapes to inscribe rhythm and intelligibility on unrelated sounds with the Tape & Microsound Music Machine.

"Acousmatic music" is, nominally, music whose sonic origin cannot be seen. It is commonly associated with the GRM (Groupe de Recherches Musicales) and the composers there, including Francoise Bayle, Bernard Parmegiani, Beatriz Ferreyra, Pierre Shaeffer and others.
