"This popular self-playing patch is usually implemented on modular systems, but the 0-Coast is the rare standalone synthesizer with the necessary power and capability. Use this as a jumping off point for your own generative explorations.

0-Coast Patch of the Week #12: Shepard's Pie

Published on May 10, 2017 MAKEN0ISE

"This is an advanced patch recipe. Check the Patch of the Week playlist for many patches that are easier to duplicate, and easier to use as building blocks or jumping-off points.

Patch discovered by Jake Pugh

By carefully tuning the frequency of our modulation sources, it’s possible to modulate the VCO frequency, and the harmonics it contains, in such a way that the two simultaneous modulations drift in and out of phase with each other. If the modulations are happening in opposite directions, it can create the aural illusion of upward and downward movement happening at the same time."

0-CTRL Patch of the Week #7: One Shot and Knight-Rider Sequences

MAKEN0ISE

"If we patch one step gate output to Stop, and let the clock run, we can create one-shot sequences of any length by touching various step touchplates. This is a simple patch, but it creates an interesting playable surface, especially if you interrupt these sequences and/or change their direction at will.

Let's build an atmospheric patch!

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"This week, Pete from the Make Noise Instagram channel guest hosts with a walkthrough of a recent patch created for our social media pages, the original of which can be found here: https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn2xR3xLReI/

Some notes on the video:

This is an 0-Coast, 0-CTRL, Morphagene patch, which uses XOH as a stereo mixer and Strega as a hyper-atmospheric delay processor. In this walkthrough we re-build the patch from scratch, sharing tips and tricks galore along the way.

Some concepts discussed in this video are covered in greater detail in the following links: [video playlist below]

Also, while not mentioned in the video, the Morphagene's Gene Smooth control (as found in the User Defined Firmware options) was set to "1" for this patch. For more information on Gene Smooth, check out this video: [last video in playlist below]

Manuals for the instruments used in this video can be found on our website"

The Spectraphon modulated by Shepard Tones!

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"Hello! It's Pete from the Make Noise Instagram channel, stopping by YouTube this week with a walkthrough of a recent favorite Spectraphon/Spiratone patch!

I know, I know, you're asking yourself WHICH recent favorite Spectraphon/Spiratone patch could he be referring to? There are so many. It's this one: https://www.instagram.com/p/CuHved6N3bP/

The patch was inspired by the functionality of the Buchla 297 Infinite Phase Shifter, and while it is not a recreation of the 297 it uses the module as a jumping off point for sonic exploration.

For more information on the Make Noise Soundhack Spiratone, please check out Walker's excellent overview video from the halcyon days of 2016: [posted here in 2015]

Thanks for watching and happy patching!
