Yamaha CS 60 + Sony HR-MP5: First Date

Published on Feb 19, 2020 Metralon

"Playing around with these 2 boxes, just having fun.

The CS60 went straight into the HR-MP5. You are listening to the output of the HR-MP5, recorded @ 48kHz 24bit through a RME Fireface 800 in Cubase, using a Waves L2 Maximizer to dither down to 16 bit. The Youtube audio compression algorithm tops it of (ugh). No processing, no eq or limiting; none of that. Just a plain and simple, direct recording of the HR-MP5.

PLAY LIST

28:12 Echoes of Dreamscape
30:05 Angels on Distortion
30:38 Bringing it down
31:05 Two-Face Theme
31:51 PRESET: "039 RIPPLE MAGIC"

Some distortion occurred around 20 ~ 22 minutes. Not sure why; input levels on the metering function of the MP5 looked fine. I adjusted input levels on the interface's input, I dialed down the output level of the CS 60, and lowered input levels on the MP5. All was fine afterwards in terms of sound - although input level on the MP5's was pretty low at that point. The thing with the MP5 is: jacks are calibrated at -10dB; these are single ended, so unbalanced."

Yamaha CS 60 - She is Alive

Published on Jul 31, 2019 Metralon

The playlist above starts with a demo with the description directly below, followed by a number of restoration videos.

"SKIP to 1:49 if the LFO detuning at the beginning of this video is too much.

Very first improvisation after one year of restoration work.

Ok that was a lie: it was my third improv. The first one was utterly magical and was not recorded; at one time the synth spoke to me, I swear! That was a couple of days ago. The second improv happened yesterday and wasn't all that great. So you'll have to do with this third one as a first encounter. In the notes of John Williams: d4-e4-c4-c3-g3.

With due apologies for the length and randomness of the improv; the CS60 universe envelops you and before you know it you're 40 minutes in.

CUE LIST:

00:00 Slow and deep detune
01:49 That's more like it
05:15 Squarelling
07:36 Did you saw that? (terrible pun i know)

21:34 Sawdust with square hinges in a bed of sins
22:48 Opening that filter
23:27 Get ready for take off
24:44 Across the horizon
25:54 Pulse 1 (fiery chariots)
27:46 Filter ride
28:46 Put a ring on it
29:06 Pulse 2 (deep)
29:56 R U sure?

Roland EP 20 - high quality demo

Published on Jul 18, 2019 Metralon

"This is a vintage 70s Roland digital piano. Recorded straight into an RME Fireface 800 @24 bit 48 kHz. No effects or plugins were added, bar a Waves L2 limiter on the master bus to keep peaks at bay. The audio was converted to AAC 320 kbps prior to upload.

This instrument was serviced inside and out. The connectors were replaced with a set of brand new Neutrik gold plated 1/4" jacks. All electrolytical capacitors were replaced, the faders were fully dismantled and cleaned, all keys were individually cleansed, and the tolex was scrubbed carefully.

Needless to say: everything works as it should and the sound is crisp and alive.

The synth comes complete with original cover, music stand, all knobs are present, integrated power lead.

NOTE that this is the 220 V / 50~60 Hz model.

Asking price € 490 + shipping.
Will ship safe and secure from Belgium, Europe."

Beyond the Madness

Published on Jun 7, 2019 Metralon

"You are listening to a single patch created on the V-synth GT. This performance is all done live.

Except for a Waves L2 limiter - for IDR and to shave off the highest of peaks (@ 0.2 dB) - there was no processing or editing done. The synth went straight into an RME Fireface 800 at 48kHz, 24 bit."
