Quasimidi Quasar MASS / Rare Synth Module Made in Germany 1993. Rack Mount Synthesizer

the Quasimidi Quasar is in full working order, there are marks to the casing as can be seen on the photos,

The volume pot is a little bit scratchy when turning the volume knob.

The Quasar from Quasimidi is a rack-mounted digital synthesiser module which was released in 1993. A synth that was satisfying to the Techno crowds of the day and also General MIDI friendly.

The presets and drum sounds eschewed the typical General Midi specification, which was in vogue at the time, in favour of electronic and trance techno styles. The Quasar included an arpeggiator, which was an unusual feature in 1993.

Largely a sample based machine with limited editing capabilities but enough to play with among it's 1,000 samples available for tweaking.

The synthesizer also features a robust set of effects from Chorus, vibrator to delays, reverbs, and vocoder effects.

"Dub Techno Track made with vintage Quasimidi Quasar from 1994!"

FEATURING:
I started making Electronic Music in the 1990's.
Over the past few years, i've been collecting some vintage gear from Quasimidi to try and recapture some of the feeling of making music all those years ago.
I recently acquired a rare, vintage Quasimidi Quasar rack mount rompler from 1994 with **BOTH** expansion cards installed - WHAT A FIND!!
This track was made ENTIRELY from sounds that I recorded directly into Ableton Live from the Quasar.
Not a bad track for 26 year old sounds!!
I hope you enjoy!

Whatever kind of music you are making - KEEP IT UP, Friends!
Don't stop making *YOUR MUSIC*!!

"Polyphony - 21 voices Multitimbral - 16 parts Oscillators - 2 Waveforms - ROM LFO - 1 LFO VCA/Envelopes - 1 VCA with ADSR Envelope Controls - MIDI In/Out/Thru Arpeggiator - Built-in arpeggiator synced to MIDI clock Songs - 1 Demo Song Effects - Chorus, vibrato, delays, vocoder, filters, reverbs Memory - 1000 single sounds in ROM, 200 performance layer sounds

The Quasar is an early nineties synthesizer from Germany company Quasimidi. Although it is a digital synth, the Quasar was an early attempt at simulating vintage analog sounds without using an oscillator. Instead, the Quasar featured Multi-Algorithm Sound Synthesis or M.A.S.S. for short. Quasar comes with a selection of 1000 onboard sounds, but what makes them unique compared to the competition of the time was that they were all processed using different synthesis techniques. It features the standard 16 parts expected from a synth module, including a drum-part and all of them can be used at the same time. Also, the Quasar has 64 note polyphony and is compatible with GM."

""Think 90's electronica Berlin"

All knobs, encoders, and switches work great. The encoders turn with positive increments and no skipping

Following the success of their Quasar synth last year, Quasimidi have launched the new Technox, aimed firmly at the production of electronic music.

Quasimidi's Technox is the second offering from this relatively new German manufacturer. Their first synth, the Quasar, was reviewed by yours truly in the August 1994 issue of Sound On Sound and I stated there that I was well impressed. The Technox is aimed at the dance end of the synth-buyers' market. The Technox sports a daring silver front panel and is very sparing in its controls. To the right of the power switch is the back-lit 2x16 LCD that allows the Technox to communicate with you in a meaningful way. Further to the right, there are the parameter and value knobs for you to reply to the Technox. Two buttons are designated as 'Enter/OK' and 'Exit' for editing purposes. A further two buttons provide switching across ROM/RAM banks, and also double up to scroll across the 16 'Parts' when the Technox is in multitimbral mode. The front panel is completed by a volume control and headphone output, which I find is always a welcome sight on any synth. To the rear are the main left/right standard jack outputs, the obligatory MIDI In/Out/Thru connectors, a footswitch connector and a 3 prong A/C outlet. Quasimidi make no bones about the fact that they are aiming this machine squarely at the electronic market. The onboard ROMs feature sounds collated from the very core of EDM production, such as the MiniMoog, the Roland TB303 Bassline and the ubiquitous Roland TR606/808/909 drum machines. The Technox uses the same method of sound creation pioneered by the Quasar. This method goes under the acronym of MASS, which is short for 'Multi Algorithm Sound Synthesis'. This essentially means that the Technox uses more than one type of synthesis to produce its sounds -- namely PCM, FM and additive synthesis."

Quasimidi Quasar - Live Performance

YouTube via beckhusen

"The Quasar from Quasimidi is my oldest rack-synth expander. In the video you see my typical way to play with this machine. Of course you can make different changings to the single instruments and performances. For detailed technical infos please search the web.
As you see i like a randomized style of handling with the Quasar. That includes most times the key following same as the instrument changings. In this video i played only the C for triggering."

"This powerful multitimbral Synth is one of the best for intuitive dance or electronic music making process. As a company first instrument it had to be good (a hand-made by Quasimidi founders, much like Sequential instruments). It has excellent arpeggiator (with recordable MIDI output), two versatile effect processors and first of all its famous gringy and sparkling sound full of dymanics. Gorgeous techno-rave-electro machine, great also for any of modern industrial or gothic styles. Its also expandable with original Quasimidi boards such as T.R.E. (it can hold two expantion boards). Also features 2 MIDI inputs and 6 Audio outputs..."
