Roland JX-1 Performance Synth - realtime tweaking on a 90s Rompler. The best of „both worlds“
video upload by Ted murena
"The the Roland JX one is a 90s romper built as part of the JX series. This synthesiser gives the user a lot to control in their play mode but it is not a workstation and does not have a lot of ability to truly create brand new sounds effectively you are able to tweak the presets to come up with some pretty good useful sounds this has been used by many, techno and trance artist over the 90s as a nice entry synth and also a real usable playable instrument for those that may be more likely to be focused on DJ activities while making music."

Sound Demo Yamaha CS1X Performance Synthesizer. 1996 proto-Virtual analog that saw the future.
video upload by Ted murena
"The Yamaha CSX1 [CS1X] cost about 600 dollars in the mid nineties. Almost three months of my car payment back then. But it was an interesting synth that foresaw the virtual analog craze that took hold a few years later. As an instrument its use of arpeggios and realtime controls made it a really cool device in a world of rompers and General MIDI. Yes this is sample based synth and yes it does have general Midi"

Is there any reason to buy a Roland 2080 in 2024? First thoughts on this capable albatross
video upload by Ted murena
"The JV series dominated Roland’s lineup in the 90s and was certainly capable. They were well built and offered a lot of power. The 2080 offered more expansion capabilities and overall utility than you could fit into two rack spaces in the 90s. We saw this synth in basically every studio in late 90s into the 2010s but now it’s easily purchased for little money. The big question I have is it obsolete or is it great gear…"

The cord DS8 as a digital synthesiser with eight note polyphony let’s hear what the synth can do using it’s presets. We’ll also cover some of the other features of this keyboard."
