The Ballad Of Big Brother - Matrix 12

"Clearly, Orwell was just 30 years off in his predictions. Big Brother is truly here, and I figure it deserves a ballad! This is dedicated to Edward Snowden. A special thank you to Claude Castonguay for lending me his wonderful Oberheim Matrix 12, which is featured here on all synth duties."

1979 DIY Keyboard from Wersi Ad

This one in via WOK.

Update via WOK: "this "take away mini organ" was in fact a full sized keybed in a massive wood cabinet, but it was portable with it's 13 Kg - contrary to the other Wersi organs with 150kg and more...
It was available as a DIY kit or ready made and had the standard cheesy sound like it's competitors (but a quite good speaker inside).  I know it - it was my first keyboard back then..... :-)"

There's actually one listed on eBay here.

"This is the Alien Brain, the pocket-sized 100% analogue synthesizer for covert operations in the field of electronic music! (until you switch it on and plug it in, then is screams, roars, rumbles and crackles and even lights up, just as you might expect an alien's brain to do when you put some electricity through it!)

Described as "The Ocarina From Hell" by a Reading Sound Engineer, It has three pulse-wave oscillators - each with a very wide frequency range from rhythmical clicking up to almost dog-whistle territory, a band-pass filter and a volume control
- all controlled by light-sensors. It is a loud, fun and very tactile little instrument, with a wide range of tones, textures and timbres available. It is powered by a 9v battery (included) and plugs in via 1/4 jack to any guitar/bass amp or PA, mixer, fx-pedals, computer etc. (It does not have an in-built speaker)

Each one is unique in appearance - as you can see in the photos, as I make each one individually. They are also very robust, and the first ones i made 7 years ago are still working fine today. Previous owners have used them in studio recordings and productions, performances, synthesis lectures, playing with their children, jamming with other musicians, testing sound-systems, and numerous other things. The one thing they depend on is a good bright light source, so you can have a lot of fun experimenting with flickering strip-lights (laser-like dive bomb sounds) strobe lights, candles, or just using your fingers to control how much light lands on each sensor."

Little Phatty CV Output Modification

Published on Sep 9, 2013 MoogMusicInc·253 videos

"This modification comes with a Little Phatty gig bag and full tune up to bring your Little Phatty back to original factory specification.

The Little Phatty CV Out modification unlocks a host of modular control features and flexibility tucked away in your Little Phatty.
It allows you to connect to Moogerfoogers, synthesizers and other analog gear to create sounds in new ways not possible with MIDI.
You also gain access to the Little Phatty's analog noise source for creating powerful analog snare drums and percussion effects.

Mod Bus Output- Provides access to any selected modulation source. Send an LFO to your Moogerfooger, or select noise as a source and patch it to the Phatty's audio input for hard-hitting snare drums and percussion effects.

Pitch Output- As the pitch of your synthesizer increases, so does the control voltage. When this output is connected to any control input on a Moogerfooger or analog synthesizer, that control inputs value will increase as higher notes are played and decrease as lower notes are played.

Gate Output- Each time a note is pressed, a gate signal is sent and when that note is released, the signal ends. This output can be used creatively with the Phatty's built in arpeggiator to create rhythmic, drone, percussive effects in analog synthesizers and Moogerfoogers.

Volume Envelope Output- The shape of your Volume Envelope is outputted as a control voltage. When connected to other analog devices, an envelope yields dynamic and evolving control information that can be used in a variety musical ways.

Filter Envelope Output- The shape of your Filter Envelope is outputted as a control voltage. When connected to other analog devices, an envelope yields dynamic and evolving control information that can be used in a variety musical ways."

"The Little Phatty was released in 2006 as a tribute to the life and legacy of Moog Music founder and synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog. Following the passing of Dr. Moog, The Little Phatty was the first Moog synthesizer designed by Moog Music's Chief Engineer, Cyril Lance.

Over the course of its seven year production run, the Little Phatty has gone through three incantations including The Tribute, Stage I, and Stage II editions. During that time, the Little Phatty has become one of the best selling professional analog synthesizers in history. Its sonic impact on modern music can be heard on thousands of records, and its signature swooped-back silhouette can be seen in top recording facilities around the world as well as on the stages of internationally touring musical acts such as Rush, Jack White, Queens of The Stone Age, No Doubt, Bernie Worrell and the hit shows American Idol, Nashville and Portlandia"

"Today we announce the discontinuation of the Little Phatty synthesizer, released in 2006 as a tribute to the life and legacy of Moog Music founder and synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog"

Update: and the official press release:

"ASHEVILLE, NC – September 9, 2013 – Moog Music today announced the discontinuation of the Little Phatty Stage II analog synthesizer. Moog plans to continue building a limited quantity of units at their factory in downtown Asheville while parts and materials last, which is not expected to be more than two months. The Little Phatty was released in 2006 as a tribute to the life and legacy of Moog Music founder and synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog. Following the passing of Dr. Moog, The Little Phatty was the first Moog synthesizer designed by Moog Music's Chief Engineer, Cyril Lance.

“After Bob’s passing, we faced the immense challenge of creating a new synthesizer that would embody the values that we all treasured in Bob," Lance recalls. “We worked around the clock to develop an instrument that was founded on his continually forward-looking view of synthesis."

“The Little Phatty represented a key foundational element in what would become the future of Moog Music," said Michael Adams, Moog Music President & CEO. "It was the synthesizer that proved to the world that Moog Music would continue to create market leading, forward-thinking synthesizers. The fact that the Little Phatty remains an industry standard instrument for artists and producers to this day, is a testament to its design.”

The Little Phatty Stage II is still available in limited quantities at stocking dealers in standard and custom colors while supplies last. For pricing and availability, please visit www.moogmusic.com/dealers.
