  2. Damn, I feel sorry for this guy with all these shitty old analog synths!!! And what about all those piss poor modules, everybody can totally agree that this guy has the absolute worst taste in modules. The best thing I see in this set is the Korg Electribe, hands down!!!!!!!
C'mon everybody, let's rip this guy to shreds for his poor taste in synths!!!!
    BLAHHHHH!!!!!
I mean seriously, I could fart and it'd sound more in tune than that VCS3, and probably better too!!!
And as for that JP8, my $300 D-50 would spooge on that loada' crap any old day!!!
Hey guy, why don't you save that $50,000 and spend it on something useful like a FULL set of Korg Electribes and if you want to go modular, which I don't see how anyone in their right mind would or could, then get some of those sick ass Danelectro guitar pedals and run a Yamaha TG-33 through it. Seriously, that's all you need and you can use the rest of that cash for a great multitracker like a nice Dell laptop running Vista and Garrage Band and MAYBE Cubase, but Cubase isn't neccessary cause I've made 3 hit records with just the setup listed above and I spin at a full time residency at cool little hot spot just south of the New Mexican border near Las Cruces.

  4. The dude is on to something about the fart tuning better than a VCS3 though.

  8. "I cant work out if that was a joke or not"

I think it is an extreme case of jealousy attempting to hide under the guise of a joke.

Nice stuff mono-poly, I'll be man enough to admit that I too am a bit jealous. ;)

  9. It doesn't look like anything is plugged in? I've got 1/4 that much gear and I've got hundreds of wires all over the place (actually they're snakes and they are bundled neatly - most going to patch-bays). Is this just a collector or is the stuff used?

    ReplyDelete
  10. That was funny :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. No, it wasn't really that funny because if you had bothered to do any research before commenting you would have seen this quote directly from mono-poly:

"I just did a new floor in my studio and am not done yet.
So nothing is connected now but it will be very soon."

  12. I don't think anyone needs to worry about Dennis putting his instruments to good use. Unlike many gear collectors he actually plays music AND he even plays with other people.

  13. "Is this just a collector or is the stuff used?"

I thought that comment was pretty funny actually. Who the hell would collect this stuff and not use it?!!! Think about how absurd that would be. haha! Seriously, you usually don't collect something unless you actually like something, and why would you like synths if not to use them? Every time I see the collector comment, I'm left scratching my head. I mean is there such a thing as a synth collector who doesn't use them?

    ReplyDelete
  14. You'd be surprised. I actually know a few people who make a real nice living and have big classic synth collections but have never used them. I guess its kind of like rich people who collect classic cars but would never dare drive them. They like to have them for show and status.

  15. "I mean is there such a thing as a synth collector who doesn't use them?"

    One word (hyphenated): Five-G.

And yes, there's other examples of the same behavior, sadly.

  16. i think its a guy that knows, him well, and want to destruct him...

I only missing the serges on the pic, where are they :) ?

  17. "Who the hell would collect this stuff and not use it?!!!"

    You're joking, right?
MOST large collections don't get used.

Regardless, what difference does it make?
You have a day job and mess with a synth as a hobby. Collectors collect synths as a hobby.
Neither one releases any music, so who is to say your use is any more valid than his?
You may look at him and say "OMG..you never play them."
He may look at you and say "OMG...you're wearing out that synth by playing it."

  18. I'll tell you what. Point me to a synth collector who doesn't actually use them and I'll do an interview with that person to find out what floats his/her boat. It would make for a great post. Dealers don't count as they are obviously in it for the profit. Five G doesn't count as they are a synth shop. I'm talking about an individual collector. I haven't run across one yet, so I'd be really curious to meet one.

  19. Ok here comes my story.

I guess i am a collector because i got all the nice stuff right?
I don't make monney with my stuff like doing complete tracks witch get released. Usually i just aint coming further working out complete tracks. Once a while i do some "live" stuff with friends. I got a job witch brings in enough monney to buy/collect nice instruments. And my studio just got a new floor and need to do my wall and roof but i bet next week some stuff will be plugged in for sure. The Serge system is sold people as most people know already. I left the banana world. Remember i'm that "fool" who converted his modcan A / cyndustries module with minijacks. But more info and post on that to ofcourse. And there will be post from some other projects to.

    Cheers,

    Dennis

  20. Dennis, it looks like there's some modules done in Wiard format, can you give details? Are they 300 series conversions of 1200 series modules? I do love my noise rign and can't wait for the wogglebug to arrive. cheers

  23. Matrix i know a collector that don't use them, the synths are stacked on shelves on all walls, starting from the garage, where he fix them (you find multiple oberheims obxes, polymoogs jupiters, etc. it goes then via the walls, still on shelves agains the staircase up to the 1st floor where you find nothing... next stage its crazy, and other stages to,hes sleeproom you find jupiters 4 at 2 meters high ,polysixes,he has the complete moog collection, all rolands, name it..he don't use them for each synth he has made plexiglass covers to protect them against dust, you cannot interview him,he has only a few friends .

    I call him 'the collector'

  24. I am really amused by the people who state that most large synth collections don't get used. How do they know this for a fact? They don't. Did the whiners personally audit every synth collection on the planet? Of course not. They are just pulling crap out of their butts for some deep seating mental reasons. Sure there may be some synth collections that don't get used very much. So what? Do forum whiners think they have the right to dictate what others should do with their property? Maybe these deadbeat whiners should get their own business so they can tend to it.

    ReplyDelete
  25. internet forums were specifically made for whiners to whine. someone should ban forums like these from the net.

    ReplyDelete
  26. yeah, I think they are really bad for society as a whole.
