Doh! Nevermind. Nothing to see here, please move on... : )
I've been checking that page every week since january and sidstations were available all the time i think. It's a shame they raised the price, they used to sell for 580$us a few years ago...
ReplyDeleteApparently they aren't selling so fast at their new price. A used one on Ebay still costs around $700. And what should we think of the "Final 100" batch now?
ReplyDeleteI tried to get one of those HardSID PCI Cards in Canada. Someone was going to import a bunch, but they didn't get enough orders. I will one day probably order one from the company in Europe, but they don't take credit cards or paypal -- only western union, and I'm way too lazy for that. It's a GREAT card tho, works in PC's and Mac's, and lets you run SID songs on it directly. It also supports up to 4 SID chips (the main two different types can be installed on a card at the same time). WAY WAY cheaper than a SidStation.
ReplyDeleteI assume you mean the HardSID at Reflex Audio: http://www.reflexaudio.com/products_hardsid.htm? I beleive it's run by James Graham of Retro Thing which is based in Canada. I'll ping him and see what he says.
ReplyDeleteYa, he sent me an email saying that my preorder was cancelled because they couldn't get enough interest.
ReplyDeleteI suspect they had to commit to a large order from the manufacturer in Europe
I've ordered HardSID cards from Teli S. in Hungary on two seperate occasions. Using Western Union is pretty easy, I think I did it online. And yes, the HardSID is an amazing peice of hardware with far more bang-for-the buck than the the Sidstation. You do need a PC for it, though.
ReplyDeleteYep, I heard back from James. It was due to low interest. Ordering via Hungary sounds like the way to go.
ReplyDeleteThere's a Sid Station auction on ebay right now, only $255 as I'm posting with just over 1 day to go.
ReplyDeleteDon't have the budget right now or I'd bid on it myself.

built into your old C64..
what did that cost you total?
I am wondering how the midibox sid lfos compare with the sidstation ones. I have never seen another synth with lfos as interesting as the sidstation. You can mix/interlace all of them and make a mess of modulation.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear about other synths with lfos as flexible as that...
That MidiBox sid sure looks like a very capable unit anyways.
