'Love Rollercoaster' by the Ohio Players featured a string synth hook in the chorus. This was a top 40 hit in 1975 (give or take a year. I'm pretty sure this was the song that made the string synth famous, except now I'm remembering Gary Wrights 'Dream Weaver' from a year or two before...

Yes, it was an ARP Omni on Love Will Tear Us Apart, treated through a Melos DE1 analogue echo.
