Kitaro on YouTube

Update: I finally got around to checking this out in whole. Yes sometimes I don't even have time to check out my own posts. Sad I know... I just noticed that he's playing relatively older synths compared to the others on stage. There of course are his favorites, a Korg 800DV and 700s, however the one he predominantly plays in this piece is a Casio FZ-1 of all things. Pretty interesting when you realize he could be playing any synth he wants. Kitaro clearly has his favorites just like the rest of us. That's pretty cool. You don't see Kraftwerk doing that. Also, I beleive that was the tour I actually got to see him live in the early 90s. I remember the performance and him playing the taiko drums.

  1. I see what looks like a Korg 700S on top of a Korg 800DV - that's the trademark Kitaro lead sound, but you don't hear it on this track. He's got a VP-330 also. pfff - I see mostly lots of FZ-1 action on this one.

I caught a similar late 80s-ish show myself. Those really big taikos have some massive subharmonics, that's what I remember most other than his infrequent and eerie use of VP-330.

  2. Yeah, I saw Kitaro in the early 90s. Great show. I believe he had the 700s and 800DV as well. Definitely the 800DV.

  3. Finally got around to watching it in whole. That was indeed the tour I saw him in. I think it's pretty cool he sticks to his older synths including the FZ-1. He could have gone with a Kurzweil like the other band members, but instead he probably stuck to his roots. Pretty cool.

  4. Ya, lame I was really hoping he'd bust out some minikorg.
