Dana Countryman - New Flickr Shot

flickr by k0re.

Shot of Dana Countryman from the

A little trivia: Note Dana's keyboards changed. When I saw them in Seattle, he had a Yamaha DX7 as the main synth. In San Francisco you can see the Yamaha DX7 was replaced with a Roland Jupiter (I'm guessing the 6) and a Nord G2 as the synthesizers.com modular controller (not sure what he had in Seattle, but I didn't see red). In this shot he also has the G2. BTW, I'm not sure if this shot is from the San Francisco or LA shows.

Update via Brian in the comments:
"I went to the LA show. Jean Jacques had his Ondioline, but there was no Moog Modular. The keyboards I saw were:

* Moog Voyager Blue
* DSI Poly Evolver
* Nord Electro 2
* Korg MS2000"

  2. i think he was asking around on other boards if he could borrow some equipment so he didnt have to drag his stuff around to every venue....maybe he is just borrowing different controllers at every place from the super underground network of synth lovers

  3. he pointed at a synth.com modular and thanked someone for letting him borrow their Moog.

  4. Showbiz. In the Seattle show Dana whipped out a CD and said that's the backup band. He said they would doodle on top, so he was honest about it. It wouldn't be possible or realistic to expect them to play it all live. It was a little hard to tell what was and wasn't live, but it was entertaining. When he played the synth.com modular a couple of times, the sound responded to his knob movements and playing, so I'm guessing some of that if not all of it was real. The modular patch always sounded the same as well and he had an MS2000 sitting on top possible for the non-modular sounds. Who knows though... It beat a bunch of laptops. : )

  5. That last bit wasn't clear. The fact that the modular sounded the same told me it was probably set up and working. If the patches went all over the place without him physically repatching then I'd know it was bogus. For non-modular sounds where he wasn't playing the modular patch or tweaking it, I'm guessing he was playing the MS2000 sitting on top of the modular. But again... who knows... : )

  6. not really worth arguing. It's clear they are both very talented folks.

    It was pure fun! I'm glad I was able to see this legend in his lifetime. He is a profound inspiration!

    I don't know much about Dana but he was very friendly.
