Wendy Carlos on Bob Moog

Portrait by none other than the woman who possibly started it all, Wendy Carlos. Note, I put up this image back on Bob's birthday. At the time I either completely missed Wendy's notes on Bob or it wasn't up at the time. If I missed it, I sincerely apologize for that. Title link takes you there.

"Bob and I were friends for about 41 years. That sounds incomprehensible now, but there you are. We met when I accidentally woke him up. He was taking a much needed nap on a banquette on the Mezzanine of the Barbizon-Plaza Hotel, in NYC. The Moog Company had setup an exhibit at one of the yearly AES conferences (the Audio Engineering Society was a LOT smaller back then, and more informal -- even the tech papers were free and handy, open to anyone attending the exhibits)."

  5. > She deserves all the respect in the world.

Nobody that stifles free expression through frivolous lawsuits deserves much respect.

  6. Well there's free expression and there's being commercially exploited. Now Wendy probably knows enough about the business know that Momus' major label distributed album probably wouldn't earn him squat but none the less it wouldn't have been in shops or cost substantial money to withdraw if it wasn't making someone some money... and Momus probably should have known better than to make an outre hommage to someone he doesn't know without asking if it's okay. Hey if he really knew her he'd know a) he wouldn't get very far with that particular topic and b) she has a relationship with an entertainment business attorney.

Bullshit. If that had any legal leg to stand on satire in its entirety would be outlawed.

The fact is that it was just a bullshit lawsuit because she can't stand someone mentioning Walter in any context. She gets free use of a lawyer while it cost Momus how many thousands? I guess that was the point, no?

    Revisionism at all costs? Tsk.
