Haven't seen one of these before. Click here for shots pulled via this auction. Note the auction says it's a MIDI to CV converter but the 8 1/4" jacks are labeled "Audio Trigger Input" not output. According to Synthony, the ME35T actually converts audio signals to MIDI.

The Akai S900 had an expansion option, the ASK90 iirc, that allowed you to trigger samples from triggers, and was commonly used to replace drums off tape with samples.
ReplyDeleteWhen Akai released the S950, the ASK90 board wouldn't fit anymore, so they made the ASK90 into a separate stand-alone unit - that's the ME35T trigger-to-MIDI box you have here, which also doubles as a drumpad-to-MIDI brain as well.
I had one one those, the interface is easy to use, cream colored like old computers. I bought on ebay and it was advertised as a drum replacement machine. Velocity only goes to 100 on this thing.
ReplyDeleteAlesis sells something similar.
ReplyDeleteI've been after one of these for a while (though this is a bit overpriced). They work great if you want to trigger your drum samples from an analogue sequencer for example. The timing isn't real tight unfortunately - I believe the ask-90 board is a little better in this regard.
ReplyDeleteI used to own one of these, and their great !!!
