KORG Kaoss Pad KP3 Review on Analog Industries

Click here. Good, and more importantly, bad points expressed.

"The I/O on this machine is a joke. Just stereo RCA on the back, and a quarter-inch jack on the front that is ostensibly a "mic" input with a trim knob. This may be fine for a weekend warrior/DJ/whatever, but for a professional user, it's annoying in the extreme."

Yep... I was hoping they would include 1/4" jacks this time. The audience still appears to be DJs.

  1. ah, the contempt-worthy "weekend warriors"... surely there are none among his customer list, and it's smart business to mock them.

  2. i agree with some of what was said and am reserving my opinions until i can spend some more time with the thing but, if he really can name 67 things that can do more for less, i would love to peep that list. even part of it. my studio and live rig are ever changing things and i must admit to spending too much on ultimately dissapointing stuff. any suggestions for expressive effects would be very welcome.

  3. it really boggles the mind why korg cant be bothered to put a couple 1/4" jacks on these things

wtf is the deal korg? do you just have to save that extra 2$ production cost? jesus thats sad in the extreme, like x-treme bodaciously sad

  4. actually it`s not only those connection probs,
    that make the pad uninteresting.
if they would have given some
    seq. capabilities to the matrix...
thepad would have been a must have.

  5. Pah, just read that review and the guy does not know what he is talking about (RCA connectors aside)

    1. The slider on the left does not control delay but decay ie the amount of time after removing your finger that the effect sounds.

    2. The aliasing, well I have been using it for a couple of days now and I have not noticed any apart from where it is part of an effect - eg decimation, the sound quality is fine.

    3. The reason the loops play the way they do is because each button is a mute switch not a trigger switch, jesus talk about basic knowledge. Think of it that the loops are always running, you can retrigger all or any of the loops using the align button, can't be any simpler.d

    4. The KP is a fun effect not a high end audiophile box, if you can't get something decent out of it you should probably give up.

    5. Music is about creating a feeling, and the KP3 can help to do this, the sound quality may not be up to SSL standards but who gives a fuck, take the stick out of your ass, get some jack to phono adaptors and have a little fun, instead of whining about the AD conversion and S/N ratio.

See it as it is a $400 box that can add a little fun to a track, fuck, Radiohead use Kaoss pads as well as many other top artists, it always makes me laugh when some guy starts bitching about a product they have bought, dude just take it back or sell it and move on, because for the rest of us its good enough.

  6. To me, it's an audio toy... and in that light... a good and worthy one as it brings much joy to me. I am happy with it. Whatever a gear is, professional or amateur, as long as it makes noises or sounds... it's an instrument. The rest is up to the artist to make it work.

Just my 2 cents worth. :)

  7. To "The Daddy". Thanks sir. I couldn't have said it any better myself. [Analogy]If you race cars don't buy a frickin' Honda Accord and say it sucks. It wasn't meant for you. Doesn't mean it's a bad car though.[end Analogy]
