Arturia Does Roland

Introducing the Jupiter-8V

CRYSTAL CLEAR PHATNESS
Arturia announces Jupiter 8V, the software recreation of Roland’s famous Jupiter 8 which was in production from 1981 to 1984. The Jupiter 8 was a synth that not only inspired a generation of musicians ranging from Prince to Howard Jones, from Depeche Mode to Moby, it was also a unique machine that offered a sharp and crystalline sound while being uniquely phat.

The Jupiter-8V is the latest born in the Arturia family of analog synthesizer recreations. Offering the unique sound palette of the Roland Jupiter 8 with a bass that can bring down the house.

Based on the latest version of TAE®, the Jupiter 8 V also brings to you an advanced step sequencer, a new line of dynamic effects and a module combining LFO’s called Galaxy. All in one, the Jupiter 8 V comes with a perfect blend of classicism and modernity.

  2. Oh god yes yes yes. I miss my Jupiter 8 more than any of my old vintages - it made such great sounds.

And I will make those sounds again. This is a no-brainer purchase... dongle and all.

  5. I guess there are a lot of suckers out there who believe if they see a pretty picture they'll hear an authentic sound.

  6. yeah I don't expect it to be close. The JP8 is very particular. There is an analog fuzziness to it that I would imagaine would be really hard to fake.

  7. awww, why all the hatin'? I think Arturia has done a pretty good job on their emulations. And SOS Gordon Reid has pretty well said they get close too. I didn't like the CS80v, but loved Minimoog V. I didn't get ProV, because I love Pro53, and a lot of purists hate that one too, so maybe I've got bad taste... ;->

The weak spot is their effects, so turn those off and route through your GOOD ones.

Considering that the JP8 was always my most stable synth, and a true "go to", I'll know pretty quickly if it's the real deal. I'll be the first to cry foul. ;->

  8. I don't really think the Arturia moog modular sounds too much like one.

I kind of have to agree with Eldhardt, and the above poster.

All their synths do sound kind of the same.

  9. the timeWarp sounded closer to the Arp 2600 than the arturia, but NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE SOUND OF WARM ANALOG SYNTH SOUND

  10. "NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE SOUND OF WARM ANALOG SYNTH SOUND"

No argument there... but as a laptop living guy with two kids and no room for all the vintage synths I used to have, I take what I can get. ;->

  11. I really can't believe that review (EM or what mag was it) that panned Timewarp in favour of Arturia.

The Timewarp is much nicer for sure. I tried to run it on an intel mac, and it crashed the box.

It would be the first softsynth in a while I've bought, but alas, they may have died. No changes on their site in ages.

  12. I am sure it will sound just like every other Arutria Synth. There is no way this thing can sounds close.

  13. Same with Native instruments. Even guitar Rig sounds exactly like Reaktor. And Reaktor sounds exactly like every other synth they come up with.

They all use the same audio engine. Just like Arturia crap.

Their software is nothing more than a gimmick. I feel sorry for all the musicians selling their hardware synths, because they were dumb enough to believe that the software sounded the same.

What idiots. Thankfully the smart people who have ears realize the difference.

    Hardware FTW!!!

  14. Call me when they do an emulation of the Seekers SMS 2000.

  15. Jimmy... I have Pro-53 (I've used it A LOT), Arturia's Prophet-V and a real deal rev 3.2 Prophet-5. I hate to say it, but the real Prophet DESTROYS Pro-53. Makes it sound very thin and tiny. But Prophet-V is really really close. It's actually bassier than the real thing (maybe they modeled a rev. 2?). The real Prophet is still a little "sweeter" sounding. But not much.

The bad side is that Prophet-V uses tons of horsepower, and occasionally sputters out on my G5 :>(

  16. I had a Jupiter 8 during the 80's, it was and still is my favorite analog synth of all time. Instant Tangerine Dream soundtrack !! I've been pleased with Arturia's emulations so far, let's hope they nail this one good.
