  1. This is what happens when you love tubes, hate music and don't understand marketing.

  2. Funny, the impression I always had was that no-one at all paid any attention whatsoever to Metasonix, until this line of marketing started. Then he's had units selling out faster than he can build them.

It's possible to 'understand marketing' from more than one angle. When it brings in sales that you weren't getting before, you probably found a good angle

  3. I don't know, I think Eric's finally gone over the top with this one...

  4. Well I think the graphics and limited edition alone make these quite collectible. If you factor in the cost of components, the hand build quality of the product, and ultimately the uniqueness of the sound these are actually reasonably priced, not cheap mind you, but fair....and if they don't float your boat, go play with your presets and sound like everybody else.

yours truly, from a tube lover who likes ALL kinds of museic, as for marketing, I claim no knowledge.

  5. Brian, I don't think this will be limited edition, it is a TM module, not a TX one.

  6. they'd be much more collectible, if the graphics were painted on and not just a sticker, and at this price they should be. That is my only gripe. they are unique and sound great.

  7. are they boxes for audio production or a stamp collection?

do many people actually buy stuff like this for it's value as a collectable?

    wow

  8. People not being able to enjoy Metasonix actually makes me happy.

Their advertising, which pisses people off at best (I enjoy that) or at worst, makes a lot of people whine like little babies (which is also fun to laugh at).

Their sound, which often amusing, is certainly unique and has many uses. I like when people whine about that too.

I'm *really* happy that probably very little Metasonix gear is used to make Jesus-Rock or Line Dancing Music (LDM).

  9. this is a fun thread , back for more,

"collectible" was the wrong word....What I meant to say is that I'd like one in my collection of usable stuff and not on a wall like that overpriced 63 Strat I saw in Guitar Center last week for $30,000 (the actually rare '56 BTW was $46k) ....so I guess I should have said "I'd like to own one" instead

even if its a TM and not a TX and thus not officially a limited edition , there will never be a whole lot of these things, I have a TM-2 filter and I consider that somewhat "rare" or those folks who have a TM-4 pre amp (not me) are not gonna see the market flooded any time soon....but its not about future money or even holding its value ...its about havin fun and these things are definitely fun

as for the graphics on mylar sheet, yeah I wish they were baked on too, but then I'm guessing its a cost issue, the real value is the circuit inside .. at least you can read the black on yellow (try a Jomox M-resonator which is baked on but is black on a dark blue....impossible to read except at the beach

and I figure that there is even hope for Jesus Rock and Metasonix some day, 'cause to me Jesus Rock is about at 1970 in its production values (like so stuck in Woodstock....well OK maybe they made it to punk) so maybe in 37 years, they'll be able to squeeze some of that electro-glitch stabs in among the hosannahs (sorry if my ignorance on that topic offends)

Eric (and Metasonix) in some ways, is kind of like an artist you choose to support by buying his work, I think the small producers should be supported by the synth community, otherwise all you'll ever get is Korg, Roland, etc, etc, not ot knock their stuff, but the real innovations do not come out of product marketing committees,

    'nuff said

  10. It's not so much that his stuff looks offensive (to me, at least) as it is just silly and juvenile. It makes me think "the person who came up with this is a dork who has an anal / genital fixation."

There's no doubt that he gets attention and will probably end up in some book thanks to his tactics, but I don't want to have that dumb crap staring me in the face every time I use one of his boxes. And I would otherwise be very interested in his products. For those who like his stuff, fine, whatever.

  11. the vast majority of his products don't have this sort of marketing, in case you actually took the time to visit their webpage and see what they have to offer.

  13. I can see it now, Metasonix PG edition , suitable for all ages, or maybe a Hello Kitty licensed one in pink...now that is realllllly sick

  14. Dang, I was late to this thread....

Eric wanted something testicular so I have honor of having named the TM-7 "Scrotum Smasher" while drawing my stupid characters all over the faceplate.

I also wrote about half the manual (the useless half). Took some pictures too, including one depicting the TM-7 and a broken liquor store window. Hey, this thing is brick-like... it had to be done.

Ahhh... posting this late is fun. There's a certain freedom in knowing that nobody is reading. What else can I type.

    *ahem*

    POOP!!!

    OK I'm done.
