Ahh great, another person who puts more time into their image than their music..
ReplyDeletethese days it doesnt take much to buy some ultra-sophisticated gear to make music with. for example, the EMX she's toting is a pretty one-stop shop for creativity.
ReplyDeletebut what you cant buy is skill. this hasnt changed despite the ultra-changes in technology.
the result: an awful lot of really bad music and in many cases simply bleeps and bloops.

I just wish the people who put all the negative comments would show us some of THEIR music to critique, but alas they never do, which kind of speaks for itself. Normally for 1 of 2 reasons:
ReplyDelete1. Either they think people "won't get it" because they are of a higher skill/ability so don't want to risk it.
or
2. They lack any talent other than writing snide comments.
This is not directed just at this post but others too, I have noticed it a lot lately and it kind of pisses me off, constructive critism is one thing but snide comments are another - and they benefit no-one because they make the author look like a twat and they don't help the artist. Pointless.
So, by your logic, you must be what you criticize? Also, how do you say this any more constructively? "Tone down the image-whoring and work on your skills"
ReplyDeleteWell, it's about being one of the "older folks". After years of helping people out on forums, Ive found out the hard way that people with a real intent to learn are a scarce breed. More often than not you find people are into it just for the romance and photo ops.

to the first comment....I'd venture to say that most of us who come here, don't have much of an "image" worth putting much time into so we don't ..hey that's probably why I have a bag on my head 8-)
ReplyDelete....I listened to her myspace stuff, I thought it was nice, not real difficult, certainly cleanly executed and worth a listen...more than I can say about my poor excuse for music , which consists of poorly recorded - half finished ideas ...some day I'm gonna say "yeah, that's a song" instead of "OK that's an interesing clip or idea for later" ...
she's got nice gear for sure ...unlike my pile of craiglist "bargains" ...

ReplyDeleteI come from a different musical world where the creed was "im going to do it if it kills me". there was a gap between the have and the have nots and it was perserverance and inventivness that bridged the gap.

Plexus what?! Skill can be learned, and that can be bought for sure, with time and money...Provided you have the motivation.
What you can't buy is natural talent (which you are born with), or passion (which grows upon you), neither of which can be easily spotted in a monochrome photo ;)
I'm kinda glad to see that so many people seem to share a similar gripe to me.... I am so sick to death of seeing posts of gear that clearly go unused/are mounted in a position rendering it impossible to play/are uncabled/are a photo op/are a collectors item to some rich dude who doesn't know what filters are or wouldn't dare to power up the priceless moog anyway/are an imagewhoring device/etc etc gripe gripe gripe....But then again....
To all the haters, hey, you're not really well educated on this person, all you know is some jpgs and mp3s, so chill and keep your assumptions to yourself :)
To all the Player Hater Haters (LOL) just ask yourself this question: If this girl was not so hot, and the music not so common, would we all be reading this?
