"In "MPC land" these days is that a mysterious Japanese guy has created a boot-leg Operating system for it [Akai MPC 1000] that adds many new features. More info can be found at: link or better yet on the MPC forum. Personally I haven't messed with the new OS. I use the MPC live and don't wanna chance instability (the official OS, while not perfect is pretty good)."
BTW do check out Gregory's site for mp3s and more info on his music. That's his MPC 1000 in this shot.
I would give the JJ OS a shot. I have had less problems with crashing/data loss with the JJ OS than with the latest official AKAI OS...*and* it has more features and drastically increases usability without feeling "weird". My biggest concern when first hearing about the JJ OS was that it would be to different from the AKAI OS which I was already so comfortable with. Not the case at all, they have done a brilliant job of fitting in the new features without altering the workflow of the original OS in any negative way. Their v3.05 is free and you can always re-install the AKAI OS. Download and give it a shot for a day, you will not go back.
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, the Akai OS has a bug that can corrupt the file you are working on when you save... JJ OS fixes that. You can even reformat your HD in JJ OS, then re-install the Akai OS, and the JJ OS will fix the problem!
ReplyDeleteIt's a stable OS, I love it(simult feature is really cool, and it's amazing how much stuff they add for qlink)
