I used one of these for 18 years and it actually sounded pretty good. The filter oscillator mod in particular created a texture I have been unable to replicate exactly with any virtual analog synth. Its biggest weakness, and one that any potential purchaser should know, is that it is extremely sensitive to static electricity discharge. I blew up the firmware chip with the Max's O.S. THREE TIMES - once repaired by Sequential, once repaired by Wine Country Productions, and the last time I just threw the damn thing in a dumpster (which I now regret). Oh, and another great thing about this synth is that every voice parameter is easily accessible via MIDI controllers, something I understand even the Dave Smith Evolver does not do. I was able to create a Digital Performer console that controlled all voice parameters from a virtual interface in just an hour or two.
