  1. Watch as he takes a nicely programmed synth patch and expertly turns it into a huge awful mess, demonstrating his superb deconstructive abilities..

Points for effort for the Gearwire guys, but everything they do, shows, interviews, demos, reviews and so on shows an amazing lack of, well, ability... they just don't ever seem to demonstrate that they know what they are doing...

  2. Agreed.

Their definition of "tweaking" is obviously to randomly push buttons and turn knobs until unpleasant noise comes out. Cool man.

What would be video worthy? Howabout taking the monstrosity you just created and turning it back into the exact sound you started with.

Howabout something useful? I'd be interested in seeing a Euro-trance epic string patch "tweaked" to sound like slowly boiling magma. At 800C. In under 2 minutes.

  5. Sure, the user is the stupid one. Sure, sure. Blame the user.

But if you look at it objectively, this demo shows that the Virus TI interface is so bad that it allows you to go from Factory Patch -> Crap Sound, very, very easily, with no recourse but to change to another boring factory ego-patch .. unless you know the synth extremely well, i.e. have already bought into the cult and looked up every single word on the panel, the interface just leads you into crap territory very easily ..

  6. hmmm.. while I don't see that, being familiar with the virus UI, I do find it ironic if that happens because the limitation of the virus surface to strictly basic parameters before you go into menus seems like a shot at making it harder to mess things up. It does drive me crazy that you have to dig so deep to do the most essential things to programming. Why couldn't this abomination just sound bad?? >:(

  8. Gearwire is what it must be like to throw a bunch of chimps in a room with instruments.

Ditto. Excuse me, but the gearwire people do literally seem retarded to me. These are the most clueless people I have ever seen in my life, and trust me I have seen a ton. How on earth is gearwire still around with such enormous incompetence? Honestly.

  10. Sure, you don't have to make a super trance lead to demonstrate the TI, but you don't have to program the worst sounding high pitched turd on the planet either.

That guy on youtube (Synthwizard or whatever his name is) rocks his TI out...

For gearwire to do a demos like these just make a bad name for the virus.

Showing the programming interface or not, they really should have some basic understanding of making decent sounding patches.
