Excellent, I remember this from when it originally aired - seeing any synth content on TV was a rare luxury, and it seems that kids programs were the most likely to have this kind of stuff on.
ReplyDeleteOr BBC's Micro Live used to have some synth/compiuter music stuff on from time to time.
"seeing any synth content on TV was a rare luxury"
ReplyDelete- is this different today? (don´t have a tv...)
man, the original track was big. that sounded thin. prophet 5 is think cem osc. yuckies. and it doesnt replicate the original at all. oh well
ReplyDelete> is this different today? (don´t have a tv...)
ReplyDeleteYes it's different today, in that you can access all kinds of synth content in your home, from youtube videos, to tutorials, to manufacturer and user websites and audio examples. There's a wealth of content freely and easily available.
Back then we *only* had magazines, and the occasional little spot on TV as mentioned - otherwise video and even audio examples of synths and stuff was basically not available.
That video makes me want to endure the hassle of recording on a 24 track recorder.
ReplyDeleteI think, though, if I had to try to get that organized I'd probably explode.
So perhaps I'll pass.
I guess in this era new Dr. Who arrangements were being sold on sounding "contemporary" or perhaps fixing what wasn't good about prior revisions ignoring the fact that the original one didn't really need replacing in the first place.
ReplyDeleteGiven those assumptions it's kind of odd that guy (Keff McCulloch) has just a synth that even then wasn't very new at all. I wonder how he sold it. Must have been friends with someone important. I would think a 1987 theme would be all sampler.

ReplyDeletewell...it is a youtube video...
Is there anything that streams 1080p with 7.2 uncompressed sound yet?

ReplyDeleteYeah, but it uses up the entire internet.
