More Details on the Nord Wave

Title link takes you to more details recently posted on CDM. You can also find some details on sequencer.de.

High points:
Sampled waveforms: Oscillators can now use full waveforms (not single wavetables, Clavia hastens to add), while still routing through fully-analog circuitry.

Oscillator models: Virtual analog, FM, wavetable, sample-playback can be applied in combination (which I hear is all the rage these days). And you can load in custom waveforms, as well, via fully user-definable memory areas (so you can delete samples you hate). Clavia even promises it’ll offer additional, free waves on their website. An included software sample editor lets you tweak samples.

Morphing: Morph “almost any parameter” via mod wheel, expression, velocity, or pitch, with assignable “morph scenarios” and morph “timelines.”

Filters: 24db analog-modeled resonant filters, low-, high-, band-pass filters with envelope and velocity control, combinations of filter types, and formant filters.

Effects: EQ, delay with tap tempo, tube-style amp with overdrive, reverb.

Pitch stick: Clavia’s signature wooden pitch stick allows precise bend and vibrato.

  1. Stereo waves?

    That would be nifty.

  2. "Fully Analog?" I thought all nords were VA beasts. This seems to imply that the Wave moves beyond VA into full analogness?

  3. this board concept seems very un-nord but in a cool fashion.

  4. I think the "fully analog" statement must be a mistake. Just below it says analog modeled filters which is what we expect from a Nord. This synth looks cool, and I personally like the non-endless knobs.

  6. hey Phloem -
I figured that out alas after posting... But it's still funny to have in the press release - Fully analog (simulated)...

I wonder if like Cheese changes to Cheeze if it's fake we shouldn't have something like "Amalog" for the VA folks.

(Nothing against VA - some of my favorite synths are virtual)

  7. I hear you. It was kind of revolting when this access specialist was talking about the virus ti wavetables and going "so now we're in completely digital domain..."

I mean, wtf, digital domain as opposed to what? The domain of make-believe analog, cotton candy and lolipop domain? Gee, nothing against VA's or digital synths, which I love to be completely honest, but don't give us that bs please.

  8. We're all immersed in the new Orwellian tragedy.

Peak oil, 33 cameras on Orwells ouse in the UK, Bush and his Saudi overlords trying to create the New World Order, Eschelon, Eschelon, Eschelon.

And Marketecture, the tool of the evil masters.

  12. I wish keyboards in this price range had a more impressive control surface with more knobs (and an XY controller as featured on the $300 Xio).

Also, I thought the visual feedback/instant recall NL3 interface was quite progressive, it's a shame it was scrapped.

  13. Can we switch to calling it "subtractive synthesis", instead of "virtual analog". That way we can use the same term for both VA and real analog without this kind of controversy.

  14. I really hope Clavia will go a step forward sonically this time, not backward (NL3). IMO, Nord Lead2x does that "fake" VA sound quite nicely. I hope the Nord Wave can give us some more authentic analog-sounding timbres.
