Interestingly the auction does not mention the input mod in the bottom picture. Anyone know more about this?

it is a standard mod. it lets you run external audio signals into it....i loved my xpander, great sound.
ReplyDeleteI think you mean it's fairly well known 3rd party mod. It certainly wasn't offered at the factory afaik that would make it a "standard". Obviously since the Xpander really operates as 6 separate monosynths it makes a lot of sense to have that capability.
ReplyDeleteAlso ever since it came out I heard about all the filter modes and thought they were very cool and then like a minute later you realize, hey wait, if your filter can be a 1 pole high pass or whatever mode do you really want to use the majority modes alone as your only filter? It's a different story if you could use 2 filters. I'm sure you culd kludge 2 filters in series with the mod. But some real routing options even if it reduced the voices would have been a much more amazing synth
I guess with the input mods you can route the individual voice outputs to other inputs to chain them.
ReplyDeleteReal routing would have been great, but those other filter modes are very useful, especially the 1 pole, not all sounds are so filter based, and the other settings allow for some great sound making.
I have an Xpander with this mod. It is called the OberMod, made by Oddenmart of San Francisco. It adds external audio inputs to the back panel, whose signals are routed in placeof the noise gen in the voice. If a jack is plugged in, the external audio replaces the noise signal in the voice. There are six jacks because each jack is hardwired directly to the voice board. It's a little noisy, but I wanted to be able to process external audio through the Xpander filters.
ReplyDeleteBeing that it is being sold by wav, I can just imagine what kind of ridiculous reserve he has on it.
