Roland MC-4b, MTR-100, and OP8

Title link takes you to more shots via this auction.

Details:
"This is a Roland MC-4b MicroComposer Digital CV/GATE Sequencer for sequencing analog synths with CV/GATE inputs. It comes complete with the extremely rare optional MTR-100 Digital Cassette Recorder and the somewhat rare optional OP-8 DCB converter for controlling a Juno-60 or Jupiter-8 via DCB interface. It also includes the original manual, 20 Maxell M-90 Data Cassettes (recommended by Roland in the manual), and an original DCB cable for interfacing with a Jupiter-8 or Juno-60. It took me over 12 years to complete this set, now you can save yourself the time and effort by buying them altogether. This sequencer is the tightest sequencer on the planet, and can sequence CV/GATE synths with ease. It was used by many artists to create some of the best music ever heard. Former users include Vince Clarke, Rational Youth, Human League & Martin Rushent (Dare!), Richard D. James (Analord), John Foxx, Wang Chung, Tears For Fears (The Hurting), Toto, Devo, YMO, and many more. A keyboard with CV/GATE output can be hooked up to enter notes via keyboard, or you can enter notes using the calculator keypad. This MC-4 is the more difficult to find expanded model with the "B" designation that allows you to save patches to the supplied MTR-100 Data Cassette Recorder at twice the speed as normal, and also contains double the memory capacity. This is my last MC-4b, and it will be sorely missed. You can listen to a song I composed entirely with this setup and an additional MC-4 here: http://isatellite.info/lifeintokyo.html. 2. I just checked his music, it's very good! Sort of what you'd expect someone who collects this gear and can play/program.

  3. wat thu?!

i just bought a mc-4b for $150 two weeks ago and an op-8 about two months ago for $200!!!

i realize that i got a great deal on the mc-4 but this is insanely overpriced.

  4. I'm generally not annoyed by bids driving prices high naturally but a pretentious starting bid is a different story altogether and does kind of bug me. weird, huh? as if ebay needs help pushing prices up.

He should make some charity auctions if he's gonna gut people like that, but I guess it's a long shot.

  5. Gut who? Don't bid if you think the price is too high. He had buyers for other gear, i'm sure he'll sell this too.

  6. his music is fairly executed, I'll give him that (apart from the talking-voice vocals). didn't really dig it but it's the kind of stuff that you respect for the effort at least.

  7. ok. leave this guy alone; at least you know you'll get this stuff and it'll work. That it will look nice, and that someone's been taking care of it--- are some nice points and add to the value. If he happened to have paid top $$$ for it then he should be compensated when selling it. i don't have near the money this guy's asking but it doesn't seem all that outlandish considering that most of the stuff he's selling is 20-30 years old and has been taken care of (presumably at a competent technician's), is useful in a modern studio, and will work when you get it.
if you ever sold vintage gear then you know how hard it is to let it go and the rationale behind a high price for me is well, "i tried." if it doesn't sell for the price asked for then ....there's always next year *sigh* :)

  8. I recently sold a vintage vox ac-30 I bought while in england for the price I paid originally. Dude who bought it got a sweet deal and it felt like good karma to me. Money is not the only thing in life, but to each his own.

This guy is getting a lot of undue flake, I agree (email threats, come oooon) but he is bringing that to himself in a way. The sheer amount of rationalizing for his stance on prices that he writes on his listings shows that he knows what he's doing and doesn't feel too good about it himself.

WS-1 and CMU-810 auctions were pretty criminal and the kind of shit that deserves flake though, in all fairness.

  9. If people chose to bid, why are you complaining? The buyers felt it was a good deal or they wouldn't have paid it. Seriously, people need to shut the fuck up about ebay prices, it's the most boring topic ever.

  13. Just out of curiosity: why is the cassette player the wrong way around compared to the other 2 boxes ? That just looks plain wrong.

  14. It's not the wrong way around. It's just flat in relation to the ground. The other two slope forward.

  15. Dude who bought your vintage AC30 got a sweet deal. He sold it on eBay last week for $4000.

  16. I was at one time the owner of an MC-4b that used to belong to Martin Rushent. This was the actual unit used on Human League's DARE! Even with a history like that I sold it on ebay for something like £250/$500 about 2 years ago.

Granted, the units isatellite is selling are in nice shape but my jaw dropped when I saw the price tag.

Looking at the list of previous sales, ebay must love this guy. Can you imagine the final value fees/paypal fees they are making from him?

I've just sold a bunch of stuff via ebay/paypal. The last time I did that I swore I would never do it again. Ebay sellers who accept paypal get totally screwed on fees.

This time I'm *really* finished wiht them.

  17. I think this seller should certainly raise his prices.

He is clearly selling to the affluent sucker market, and they are great pidgeons for sure.

    Raise them!

Agreed. He's probably the type who hated others for selling their gear for high prices, and now that it's time to sell his own stuff, he's hating himself for wanting to get the most out of his gear. I think there's too much bullshit in his ads. He's really pushing it.

  19. I can't believe someone bought the ws-1 for 1,000 bucks!

    I also can't believe that he offered a jupiter 8 for 5,000.

    Dude, f*** OFF!

  20. Correction: "Sold a Jupiter-8 for $6000"
