Roland Paraphonic 505

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.
Details:
"Roland Paraphonic 505 Analog Synth with Strings, Bass and Synthesizer sections. The synth also includes an ensemble/chorus effect which was also offered under the name Roland Dimension D as a stand alone unit. The Dimension D is valued over $500 alone. Fortunately, this synth has external inputs to run through the chorus effect, which is outstanding. This synth has a very unique sound and the bass is surprisingly fat and warm. I included pictures of the entire front panel so those of you familiar with analog synths should have a pretty good idea what you are working with. The keyboard is split and it is fully polyphonic for strings and in the upper register of the keyboard. The bass sounds are monophonic.

This keyboard is built in a solid metal case, same case as vp-330 vocoder and is in excellent condition. There is one cosmetic and one functional problem worth noting. A thin strip of wood veneer is missing off the left side panel (pictured) and the vibrato slider does not function. The cap has been removed from that slider. Otherwise the synth is in top notch condition and totally functional without any noise or complications of any kind."
Update via the world of next tuesday in the comments: "Well the Dimension D angle sounds like internet hearsay. I had a 505 though I only have a Dimension C in the same place. There is some relationship and probably a plus is the 505 setting III (of 3 settings vs 4 settings on the rack unit) is a far stronger effect than the heaviest Dimension setting. On the downside, like the Dimension C and unlike the Dimension D the 505 is a mono in stereo out device. The D of course is balanced ins and outs, though I guess a lot of people mostly use it mono to stereo."

  2. Anyway to sum it up I'm saying that no way is there a Dimension D inside. It does contain something related with fewer settings and less fidelity.

    Instead of settings 1, 2, 3, 4 there are:

"I" which is like a subtle "Dimension" effect. You don't really hear the lfo speed, it amounts to stereo depth.

"II" is like a strong chorus with no adjustment for speed or depth.

"III" is demented wide stereo flanging. So "III" is the most amazing swirling sound that you can't adjust .

  3. I've been looking for a Dimension D forever... had one that arrived with intermittent problems, but when it worked it was awesome. Anyone know anyone who has one they'd part with?
