KORG Wavestation Expansion Cards

Title link takes you to shots of various KORG Wavestation Card Sets via these auctions. Pictured is the WSC-3S "SYNTH and TIME SLICE" 2 Card Set.

Details:
"These card sets are rare and highly sought after because of the PCM waveform data they contain. This is the easiest way to add new Multisounds to your synth and thus increase it's sonic capabilities.

The SYNTH and TIME SLICE Sound Card Set consist of a WSC-3 (PCM) card and a WPC-3 (Program) card. The cards contains 49 Performances, 34 Patches, and 31 Wave Sequences."

The others include:
WSC-1S "Piano"
WPC-15 "DANCE/TOP 40"
WPC-14 "ANALOG & VS"
WPC-13 "PERFORMANCE 3"

All contain 49 Performances, 34 Patches, and 31 Wave Sequences.

I'm guessing these were released for the original Wavestation and included in the ROMs of the later Wavestations and the newer Korg Legacy Wavestation. If anyone knows, feel free to comment.

  1. hah, I remember I left that same PCM/ROM set at the security metal detectors at LAX one time. I used to keep them with me on flights because I didn't want to lose or misplace them...not the best idea. I still have the drums&percussion set right next to me hear in my studio hanging out the back of my old wavestation.

  2. There are two types of data here. The first kind are simple banks of performance/patch/WS data, and aren't worth that much, as the data is available elsewhere. It contains no new PCM content.

The second kind, the Synth/Timeslice set and the Piano set are worth more, as they are combined performance/patch/WS data together with PCM sample data.

None of this PCM data was included on later WS versions, though they did repurpose this data onto the newer O1/w-type PCM cards for the Wavestation SR.

The synth/timeslice in particular is rare and sought after, though less so now because the Korg Legacy Digital Edition includes this stuff (but not in the WS version in the original Legacy Collection), and has some nice synth waves and is probably my favourite bank collection out of all of the ones I've tried.

PS I got my Synth/Timeslice set by queueing for a few hours in the Turnkey Midnight Sale, for £20, which was a great find and well worth it! I also have the Piano set which was generously donated to me for free as the original user didn't want it anymore - it's similar to the M1 piano and the piano in the later Wavestation EX, but is different to both (I actually quite like it in that M1-piano kind of way).

The last PCM card set for the original WS was the Drum card, which I don't have, but all this stuff is in the Digital Edition, which I've been meaning to pick up for a while now...
