KORG Polysix With Reverse Keys

via this auction. Note the battery has not been replaced on this one. KORG Polysix's are notorious for leaky batteries that fry the traces on their circuit boards. It's usually not a matter of if it will happen, but when. I'd be surprised if this one did not already have a leaky battery. You can read more about the promlem and the fix on Old Crow's Synth Shop. Note if the board is fried you will need to swap it out and symptoms vary.

  1. OooooHH i like the keys very much!!! Would say though that the leaky batt business is very overhyped replaced 9 batts recently on polysix's and all where fine showing minimal leakage. would just stay clear of ones that are bashed about or show signs of rust! Plus ask about sound playing infrequently i.e. push a key randomly or play up and down an octave anywhere on the board and find if a voice is not sounding!! The 2056 chips that usually need to be replaced in this instant and are almost impossible to find!

  2. I'm not sure how overhyped the battery thing is... the batterys leak & when they do, there's the possibility that they'll eat through the traces on the circuit board. I bought one used, and cosmetically it was in great shape, but the leaky battery fried a few traces. Nothing too major, but definitly required some work.

As anon said, make sure all the voices sound.

The black keys don't complement the colors of this synth that well imo.

  3. The Old Crow makes (or made) a replacement board for the Polysix. He had fixed so many damaged boards that he decided just to reverse-engineer a replacement! The biggest trick may be getting in touch with him.

  4. And to think 2 reverse-key Poly-800s were sacrificed for this battery-leaking mess.

As A general rule I'de say to anyone avoid one that looks like its been stored in a damp atmosphere!! more chance of getting a dodgy one!! The black cancer has a habit of spreading to unusual places!

  6. this synth somehow beats both the Con Brio, OBX, and the Emulator I for ugliest synth ever. You know this was a final production run afterthought ala poly-800...
