I wasn't planning on posting anything regarding my birthday today, but after an excellent lunch (Pho and some stir fry) we headed back home for presents! I got one of those Radio Shack 200 in 1 electronic kits which I've been wanting for some time now. Gotta start somewhere... and it just looks like some fun to be had building sirens and crap. After the gifts and cards she puts a blind fold on me and tells me not to peek. Her and my daughter come back singing happy birthday with this! I could not believe it. A Matrix birthday cake, green on black with my first and favorite synth, the Oberheim Matrix-6. So awesome... She has been 100% behind me, the blog and my synth habit since day one. They are out there guys. : )

I of course took a ton of shots of the cake for posterity's sake. You can find them here.
And no, she does not call me Matrix on a regular basis. : )
Very cool cake! What a nice family you have :)

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Carbon111! Thanks everyone. Just got back from a killer sushi at Maneki in Seattle. Highly recommended. It's cheap, the food is good and the portions are huge. This year will mark their 103rd year in business. They've been at their current location since 1946. They are in the International district in downtown Seattle. Good stuff if you are ever in the area. A bit of a hole in the wall, but very good.
ReplyDeleteVery Sweet!
ReplyDeleteHappy B'day, I wish my wife is as supportive as yours to the addiction. She cursed out the Juno-106 everytime she walked past it, and dont even get me started with the Cmu-800R. She thought the Novation BS-keys was so lil and cute, and says the KARMA is pretty.
ReplyDeleteHappy b-day, Matrix! A great family is the best present anyone could have.
ReplyDeletePS- I'm especially jealous about the 200 in 1 kit. Wonder if you could craft up a half decent oscillator circuit with that thing?
spoof that cake on ebay!
ReplyDeleteYour wife put frosting on a synth?
ReplyDeleteDivorce. Now.
:P
Hah! That would be one BIG cake. I should have thought about the Ebay thing before we ate it. Hmm... maybe I can auction off the rest for parts.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! And may I say also Thank You for the terrific blog! I shudder to think what my web surfing would be without it. Sometimes when I am bored at work I think, "Maybe there's a new post on MatrixSynth."
ReplyDeleteBut I digress. Many happy returns!

Happy birthday Matrix! Yes, great wives are definitely out there. I have one, too. And it's good to hear your family forgave you after you forced them to go to the library during a storm.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday man!
ReplyDeleteNot to rain on your parade but THAT particular series of Matrix 6 cake came out before the proper candeholder assemblies were finalized and if you are older than 18 the heat of the little flames will cause the icing to drift out of tune.
Still, its a nice cake - cheer up - the new ones just don't have the same "Fatness" due to the Splenda
happy birthday matrix. i bet next year dave smith will pop out of the cake.
ReplyDeleteits wonderful that she knows my favorite synth, mine would be so hard pressed for such information.
