  1. i've just read about some nasty stuff on synthfool-dot-com - if it's true you're a nasty, mean s.o.b matrix.

  2. Umm, seriously - who gives a shit outside of the folks at Synthfool. The personal attacks made by the asinine posting up there now are about the most uninteresting and low-life thing I've read all day. You have a beef with someone because they alledgedly steal photos from your site, then in response you talk about how they are a poor father and husband for going to the library when the electricity went out?

Here's a clue, fools (appropro name if I ever heard one): you lose whatever argument you were trying to make when you drag someone's family into your asinine argument. Secondly, like I could give a shit about your complaints. Sounds more like you're upset that somebody was getting more hits than you and used a couple photos from your site. Grow up, it's not fucking 6th-grade anymore.

  3. Lame demo. I didn't hear anything that couldn't have been done on a Korg M1.

  4. yeah, k. lightner's post on his site is one of the ugliest, tackiest, most mean-spirited things i've ever read. he says he won't do business with anyone who patronizes matrixsynth? well, i wouldn't do business with him! ridiculous...

  5. Regarding the demo, adiblasi let me know more will come.

Regarding synthfool, and the Library, my wife and kid wanted to go to the library to get out of the cold. We all went together. They hung out in the kid books section and I blogged. They dropped by where I was sitting now and then and we all had a good time. I love the public library system. As for "stealing" pictures, Kevin sent me everything to post. He asked me to take it down when I removed some comments I found offensive on a MOOG Foundation fund raiser post, one of which was his. He then asked me to take everything of his down which I did except for some posts that had other people's comments. He was against removing comments so I didn't remove them. I sent him an email asking him what to do with them and it bounced so I removed his name and waited. This was all on the same day he asked me to remove his posts btw. Next day I get this nasty email from him and the rest is history. He's done this to others, most recently Muff Wiggler (here and here), so you be the judge.

  6. The real synth fool is the person who doesn't enjoy this entertaining video!

  7. Kevin Lightner's synthfool.com post really surprised me. It's a really poor attempt at revenge. Nobody cares and nobody's going to boycott Matrix Synth because of it. If anything, Lightner will lose business and respect as people realize how incredibly childish and egotistical he's being. He's got valid concerns over copyrights, but wasn't much of the content at synthfool.com other people's copyrighted work anyway?

Synthfool, if you're reading this, I think it's in your best interest to put your site back up and quit being a baby. But do what you want.

This is exactly the kind of behavior I'd expect from someone who gets into a disagreement with someone and then blocks their email so they can't resolve the matter. You're a smart guy, so how about showing it?

Uh-oh. I think this message may have gotten me on Synthfool's blacklist. We're all on it now. This is the beginning of the end. Or is it the end? I don't know what I'm saying. Or do I?

  8. And for the record his content if off my site. If you see anything I missed, send it my way, and I will gladly remove it. His poison is not welcome here.

  9. 3 cheers for Reed for keeping this on topic! Hooray x 3. Now shut up and go play your Buchlas! ;)

  10. " He's done this to others, most recently Muff Wiggler (here and here), so you be the judge. "

I checked out the Muff Wiggler posts, and actually, as much as I think Lightner's being a big crybaby in this Matrix case, I do think he was right in the Muff Wiggler case.

Now, he's posted original product ads and other stuff I know he doesn't hold the copyright to on his site, so he's no angel.

But when someone's stealing your bandwidth by linking to your site, you've got every right to get pissed cause they're costing you more money, without any benefit to you.

The way I see it is this. If you want to use someone's photos, music, poetry or what have you, copyright law states that you need permission to do it. And so does common courtesy. Realistically, few people are going to object to most people including their work in a blog like this one because it's good publicity for them, as long as they're credited. But if they do object, it's their right to, and the law will protect them (if it's worth that much to them to pursue it legally - which it probably won't be in small potatoes cases like these)

  11. You are correct, and I actually do respect that. There is so called fair use, however, you can't steal someone's stuff as your own which now that I think of it was actually the case with Synthfool's scans. If I were putting up posts and not linking back or giving credit to the source, that would be stealing. I don't grab anything off of other sites except for what you see in the post. So far I've had three requests to take something down other than Kevin's in the life of the blog. I took them all down as requested. One was way back in the beginning and two were a little more recent. Only one was in reaction to Kevin's notice. This is out of 7936 posts to date. Note the only stuff I put up on Flickr are Ebay Auction shots. I haven't had a single request to take anything down from there. Anything else I host is on request only - I don't steal from other sites. As for posts, every single via link you see from an individual means that individual sent me the item to post. The others I find on sites or lists and I always credit them. Everything I put up is public meaning it's out there in the public domain to begin with. Take a look at my posts and judge for yourself.

  12. The Oasys 88 is quite remarkable IMO.

Really encourages me to play it.

Nice key action, great sounds, lots of dynamic heave -- works great with everything in my studio.

    Don't use it's sequencer tho.

  13. I always thought that Synthfool V Matrix drama was a bit much to take.

Surely it didn't have to take place in public.

On the Korg Oasys Vid... It's great stuff. Isn't that that same guy who did the polymoog vid... funny :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Yep, here's the vid. And yeah, I agree on the public note.

  15. I'm happy you're so happy with your new synth.

But turn your speakers to you to listen better.

  16. Kevin once offered to fix one of my synths, but then he became booked until the end of time, and then only proclaimed to service the synths of 'the stars'...

    ... ...

    so that's where that ended.

    a bit sad really.

  17. Matrix is a decent guy. Any communication I've had with him over the past couple of years has been level-headed and intelligent. In fact, he comes across as the polar opposite of the demon portrayed on the rather ferocious post on synthfool.com.

I'm a father and a husband, so the text on synthfool hit a nerve. I don't know Lightner at all, but I can tell you that ANYONE who drags someone's innocent family into a personal disagreement has gone too far.

You don't mess with someone's wife and kids. EVER.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I agree with James. And as for having Kevin Lightner service my synths, I wouldn't send my beloved synths to someone who lets his cats crawl all over them. Cats are cute and all, but anyone who knows anything about synths - especially a tech - should know to keep the 2 separate. Who wants to get their synth back with cat hairs in the faders? Not I. Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the cat synth pictures?

  19. hiss to cats on synths

  21. Mr. KL sounds like his true self is coming more and more to the surface. Just recently he essentially called his brother a murderer by implying that he was involved with his fathers death. Then accused him of stealing gold. Maybe it's all true. But where is the evidence? Then posts a link to the definition of psyco, which really sounds more like KLs behavior than anything else. Good thing Mr KL is not running our court systems. KL is judge, jury and executioner. KL basically edited his web rants several times before finally deleting them. So which edits were the truth (if any)? On another note, KL says he helps the synth community more than anyone....what by threatening, slandering and libeling anyone who cops a dumb little low res synth pic off his website. Yeah Right!
