there seems to be alot of these up for auction lately...i wonder why?>
ReplyDeleteits because they are all failing. Plagued with tuning problems. Just because it passes autotune doesnt mean it stays in tune. Buyer beware on these, they are very unreliable and most sellers play dumb when selling.
ReplyDeleteThey are not unreliable. I've had the same two for 17 years now with no problems, my partner has one as well with no issues. The japanese built ones are total shit, it's important to go for pre-gibson.
ReplyDeletearound the traps here Ive come across at least ten units here in the past year or so. They all had issues of some sort. In fact nearly all the OBx/xa/8 and xpanders Ive seen have had issues unless theyve been newly refurbed.
ReplyDeleteXPANDER RULES!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe issues are actually not that difficult to overcome. In fact, Greg Montalbano (http://analogsynthservice.com) can fix one of those up for you for a song. Seriously, these are about as hard to fix as a DOA Prophet 5. And either you're nodding and smiling .. or your jaw just dropped... noobie. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnon, if you're saying that Greg can fix them, you're probably saying that you can't.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you can't fix them, then you wouldn't know how hard or easy they are to fix.
You're basically speaking for Greg and all Xpanders. Not wise.
Some songs cost a fortune too, noobie.
good luck finding one of those displays when it burns out..lol
ReplyDeleteyes, most sellers play dumb in general these days, which is why i only buy my gear from solid sellers i know i can trust. but ive had 2 xpanders for MANY years too and have NEVER had a problem with them. theyre SOLID. dont believe anon #2. he just wants to score 1 cheap.
ReplyDeletei heard you can make hot dogs with these
ReplyDeletewell, it s a great sounding synth, but the problem is it has some obsolete components, especially the 14bit dac who takes care of the tuning of the synth (1 for 6 voices, so the xpander has 1 and matrix 12 has 2 of them in it)
ReplyDeletebut i ll never get bored of that sound, everytime i use mine, i m always impressed by its sound
ive never come across an xpander with a broken DAC, and ive seen a lot of them.
ReplyDeletethen keep being lucky ;)
ReplyDeleteif it happens, you d better not push auto tune, or all 6 voices will fail
