CMS Modded ARP 2600

Title link takes you to shots via this auction.

"it has been serviced and modified by Arp guru Phil Cirocco of CMS in 2004. Phil is arguably the top 2600 technician in the world and anyone that has heard a CMS modded 2600 knows that they are far superior to a stock unit. Phil went through it and fixed any problems, rebuilt the power supply, did his audio path upgrade (the best thing that can happen to a 2600 in my opinion) and replaced the original filter with a CMS 4012, which is identical sonically but has greatly improved stability. In short, this is a screamer that works and sounds amazing."

  1. Matrix, just outta curiousity, did you make anything off this auction?

I recall reading somewhere on a thread here that if an item sells on ebay through this blog that you get a certain percentage of the ebay sell. Is that correct or am I just imagining things?

  2. wow, that was a deal. but at least the guy who got it really needed it since he just bought another for $3200 less than a month ago with "buy it now" also.

  3. Must be nice to drop $9K in gear in a month: 2 2600's & a M-12 @ around $3K each.

  4. maybe the buyer distributes these to hotter markets in Europe?

or maybe an inheritance came through. :)

  5. The US dollar is in the toilet so it should come as no suprise that folks from overseas are snapping up gear here in the US. BTW, that was Andrew Scheidler's ARP 2600 a few years back and was quite nice _except_ for the case tolex and a few extra jacks on the front that weren't quite drilled straight. Still, if someone wanted a headache free ARP 2600 that would have been a fair deal.

I still have another 50 hours of work to go on each of my ARP 2600s. It's amazing what rebuilding the sliders will do for feel. I'm also replacing every single 1/8" jack. People bitch and moan about the extra money that a CMS or Lightner restored synth go for but time is precious and I make at least 5x more per hour at my day job than what I'm saving by doing it myself.

  6. i thought kevin lightner was the top technician?

  7. Phil @ CMS is THE Arp wizard. When Arp's founder Alan R. Pearlman wanted his 2600 restored, he brought it to CMS.

  14. And with the time I spend on this blog, it is definitely less than minimum wage. : ) So out of curiosity, why does anyone care?

  15. different models for generating revenue via the internets is very mildly interesting (its not entirely ad based)-thats all . not a problem IMO. keep up the blog--its a good distraction from work :)

  17. Regarding the cat pictures, let's just say some of what I put up is meant to make people cringe. : ) Why else would I put up a commercial featuring Kelly Clarkson?
