Featuring a young Steve Porcaro {keyboards for TOTO, Herb Alpert, Pablo Cruise, Brothers Johnson, etc.} on synthesizers along with a rockin' female cowbell player ;-) Awesome Minimoog bass. 1. What's the non-strap-on keyboard that Porcaro's using to play the slapback organ sound?

After a year of bad SNL performances, its great to see some live on TV skillz.
ReplyDeleteIt seems they got the year wrong because according to the Midnight special episode guide, this performance was first shown in April 1976.
ReplyDeleteNote the Oberheim 4-voice polyphonic synth sitting to the left of the non-strap-on keyboard.
The first Gary Wright album to feature the Obie is "Light Of Smiles" (recorded in the late summer/fall 1976).
The synth solos on the record are about 50/50 Minimoog and Oberheim.
The latter was used for all the orchestral sounds, the woodwinds, some of the string sounds, the flutes etc. Other keys featured are an Arp/Solina string ensemble, Rhodes ep, acoustic piano and Hohner Clavinet.
