"I'm forced to depart with the most incredible example of a quasimidi polymorph ever. It is one of K.S.'s black polymorphs from his 'wall' tour, complete with the original 'moogy' knobs he prefered, and running the latest OS and restore to original settings/condition. This is the one to own...and it sounds amazing. One of those pieces I swore I'd never sell...but life and finances are really pressing right now, and I'm not able to use it like it deserves to be used. I will include original manual, original PSU, and the black hard-case I store it in with custom foam fitting.
It's one of these, though I am not sure which one...perhaps the one he's reaching for?
You can see the actual one here in this video right around 1'20" into it:
Previously posted Serious Quasimidi / K.S. fans only. It doesn't get any better than this... $1500 / obo" Interesting. I didn't realize they were Black and made for Klaus Schulze with MOOG style knobs. If anyone has any close up shots of it, post a comment. I sent Shagghie a PM to see if he can take some for us before it sells. Update via Shagghie: "Hey Matrix....I did some digging at the request of someone and apparently Manikin Electronic (http://www.manikin-electronic.com) made a half dozen of these "Special edition black K.S. Polymorphs" that were a continuation on the 'K.S. factory run' they did for his wall originally in the first place. Still, a very limited/rare piece, however! Hence, i can't be positive that this actual unit is from K.S.'s wall! I don't want to give any wrong impressions given the way the post currently reads. A huge favor it would be if you could append this to the end as an 'update' from me? -shag" Update: Here's a shot of it (click for a bigger pic):

neat, looks like he was longing for his giant moog synth.
ReplyDeleteI did some digging around and there is a good chance this Polymorph is NOT, literally, off of K.S. original wall. Apparently Maninkin had sourced the remaining half dozen black faceplates from the 'K.S. run' and outfitted them the same and sold them as special K.S. black units, identical to the ones on the wall, but not literally those same units. That means this unit may or may not be from his wall originally, so I hope I haven't misled anyone by the original post. I'm going to edit my post on VSE as well contact Matrix to see about getting it changed. Rare, either way, yeah?
ReplyDeleteButtless chaps?
ReplyDeletethe polymorph has its purpose/s, but i think thats setup's an incredibly lame substitute for KS sitting at a wall of Moog...
ReplyDeletesome days you long for moog. Some days you long for Quasi... both have such unique and gorgeous sounds. And the poly's gave him what he really wanted, and what he helped conceive, and what is still so poweful today...the poly's lovely morphing sequencer and raw tones.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he was longing for anything more than the volume knob...so he could turn that wall UP!
Meh' polymorph is okbut comparing it to his once mighty moog system is a joke.
ReplyDeleteWell guys, of course who could disagree...the moog he had built was by any standard, past present or future, remarkable and sonically superior in character and analog rawness. But to say that is almost pointless, imHo.... rationale: this piece is from a time when VA was new and exciting and the ways in which it could be sequenced and modulated, and the way polyphony could be added so easily... Particularly the way Quasimidi (and K.S. went about VA sound design was fascinating....it was such a creative honeypot of ideas and, no doubt the Polymorph embodies the largest overall percentage of this era. It remains so vastly relevant, because it helped forge a new path.
ReplyDeleteI'm the first fan of analog, but not at the expense of forgetting the polymorph's place in time...again both past, present, and future. It's all good!
shagghie, my comment wasn't made to dis the polymorph, which i'm sure has something cool about it.
ReplyDeleteShagghie- I think you may have gotten the Schrittmacher confused with the Polymorph in your earlier reply (unless Manikin actually did the mods).
ReplyDeleteNo big deal- I only point this out since I noticed that you also have one of the KS Signed black Schrittmachers. I've got one, too... they're pretty cool.
I too have one of the KS-autographed black Schrittmachers. So I guess we know where 3 of the 20 are!
ReplyDeleteEssex- Cool. I was the one with the KS who posted anonymously (I was at work). When I talked to AH about getting it, they mentioned that they were going to get 3. Maybe we're those 3? Neat.
ReplyDeleteI just wish you could add lines while it was playing.
I've found that very interesting because I didn't know that KS was using Quasimidis but researching a bit more found that the model with KS sign in his front was the 309-Groove-X (a special RaveOlution) like this:

And the Polymorph don't show any reference to KS, like this:

Maybe he used Polymorphs but wasn't made "special edition KS"
Hey guys, sorry was AFK for a bit... actually, I was talking about the Polymorph itself. I have contacted Manikin directly. K.S. worked a lot with them over the years, through the Quasimidi and Schrittmacher designs both.
ReplyDeleteThe black Poly's that Manikin had made for K.S. are very very rare, and were released only through them... they were just the very few remaining half dozen of the faceplate/knob run that was designed for K.S.'s wall of 12 Polymorphs he toured and recorded with during the zenity K.S. Quasimidi years. My particular unit may be one from his wall, or it may be one of the 1/2 dozen that were privately sold through Manikin...the 'uber' Poly.
I love my black K.S. Shritty, too!
Mine's also from A.H. originally. Though I see them still for sale now there...so... Also, look how much the price has gone up! ROSI?
